Guest TurboSedan
you know what i'd do (er...did ) turbocharging an LH0 is pretty easy (as in bolt-on). the hard part is just finding all of the parts. i have alot of TGP stuff left if you're interested. i'd be worried about your transmission though. if you can find a Getrag 282 throw that in at the same time. it will take the power and make the car hella fun to drive. Q-Ball
Well, what would be more efficient for gas? L36 Turbo'd or the 3.1 Turbo'd? Also, I think there would be more replacement parts for the L67/L36 compared to the 3.1.
digitaloutsider
If you're worried about gas milage, I wouldn't be turbocharging your car in the first place.
19Cutlass94
There are many many more parts for the L36/L67, but thats not to say theres none for the 3.1. But the 3.1 would more than likely be better on gas. Although not by tooo awful much.

19Cutlass94
and the more power you want, the less fuel mileage your going to get.
Guest TurboSedan
Well, what would be more efficient for gas? L36 Turbo'd or the 3.1 Turbo'd? Also, I think there would be more replacement parts for the L67/L36 compared to the 3.1. as for replacement parts, 3.1 MPFI engines are EVERYWHERE and cheap in the junkyards. as for performance parts, the L36/L67 wins because they are newer with a nice aftermarket...but they can be expensive. the TGP "turbo-kit" is nice because it's so cheap since it really isn't an aftermarket thing. the downside is that you'd be dealing with used parts that are 16 years old. as for gas mileage, i think both engines are good. just gotta keep your foot out of it. i've noticed that it's alot easier to drive my Regal GS around "nicely" IOW...you really have to floor it to make the car get up and GO. i really have to watch it with my Cutlass or Lebaron, becuase even at 1/2 throttle the turbo will spool up and the car will start taking off like a rocket. hands down the TGP-swap will cost much less and be MUCH easier than an L67 swap. not to mention it will likely put out at least as much power if not a bit more than a stock L67. now modding an L67 or turbocharging an L36 will give you HUGE gains, but again it's expensive and you'd need to spend more money on having the tranny beefed up. the TGP doesn't really have an aftermarket, BUT a larger turbo (again, expensive) and a few other little/cheap things can get the car into the low 13s...maybe high 12s. i myself am planning on going with a 3400 and turbocharging that. i'm not going to bother modding the Regal until i can afford a CT turbo kit. THe_DeTAiL3R
Keep in mind guys- we (Q-ball) live in Canada... where TGPs are virtually non-existant. That means TGP parts have to be shipped from the states, which would be expensive. For that reason alone I would be going the 3800 route. Maybe if TGP parts were more accessible up here it would be different.
intern8tion9l
FWIW i find that i get very good highway mileage with my 3.1 turbo. better than the 2.8. and like TurboSedan said, if you keep your foot out of it around town its fine, and then there's all sorts of power when you want it. it is a very bolt-on swap, and you can find a lot of parts on ebay and here
Z34-5speed
Could you use turbo parts off of a TGP on an LQ1, without any major modifications? Kye
digitaloutsider
There's not much that's interchangable between the two engines to begin with.
Q-Ball
Well, time to save up for the L67/L36.
customgod227
I personally would recemond a L67 swap, with the turbo. Due to the fact of the internals of a L67 are much stronger than of a L36. I'm not saying that the L36 will not withold good amounts of boost(used to have a Blown L36) Its just that if you want more than 8ish pounds of "Safe" boost, and have no worries about it, run an L67.
