I have a problem with my 94 Cutlass Supreme. THis car has ran like a top since the day I bought it in 97 but lately I have noticed a miss in overdrive and under I high load (going up hills). THe miss is like a studder or a surge that stops once I let off the gas and get the car to shift into the passing gear. This has been going on for a couple weeks but then yesterday I noticed at a stop light that the tach dropped way down and then would surge back up to 1000rpm. After a few stop lights the rpm would drop so low the engine would stall. I can start it right back up and there are no check engine lights. I am thinking one of the ignition coils is bad but I am not a mechanic so I don't know if its something completely different. I am here to see if anyone else had this exact problem and what they did to fix it. I am thinking about just going out and buying plugs, wires and a full set of coils to see if that fixes the problem. Any help would be great.

How many miles does it got?

By the way, the problem was a bad IAC control valve. I'd give the trottle body a good cleaning and the clean that IAC valve.

The car would always buck and stall when at a light when my mother had this problem. Id say for a couple bucks out of yer pocket, its worth the shot.

Use the cleaner meant for fuel injected engines as carb cleaner can hurt the injectors and the sensors.

The car has 97,000 miles now. I had the throttle body cleaned real good about 10,000 miles ago. My local mechanic had a new "special machine" made just for that. I will take a good look at the IAC valve and see if that is the problem. I went out today and bought plugs, wires and coils just in case also. Thanks for the help.
