90TGPGirl
For the longest time, my TGP sat without a front end. I bought it without the front end with the intentions of fixing it up and have it be my "play" car. Well, finally this month, the car was put back together. So far, my mods include: K&N cone filter on the turbo FFP Dogbones 160 t-stat TopGun chip (will be installed this weekend) FFP UD pulley (will be installed this weekend) As of right now, the car is in the shop getting tuned up (Ac Delco Rapidfire plugs, wires, O2 sensor & PCV valve) It's also getting a trans flush and new filter and a coolant flush. Now...this morning on my way to the shop, the car ran like crap! This is the first time it ran like this so I'm kinda worried. At idle is shook like crazy, like there was a ton of engine vibration. But I JUST installed the FFP dogbones...and they don't budge. Any clues as to what's causing the shaking??? Thanx! I posted some links of my car too. This is what it looked like when I bought it: http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-01.jpg The hood needed to be repaired - here it is all primed: http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-06.jpg The fender was also in bad shape - here it is all fixed: http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-11.jpg Here it is being re-assembled: http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-29.jpg http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-30.jpg Here it is...all back together and re-painted!!! http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-32.jpg http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-36.jpg http://161.58.216.36/images/1152/60659/60659-38.jpg In case you are wondering, the purple color is the 1970 Challenger "Plum Crazy" and the black stripe is the old muscle car style racing stripe. It's mainly there to set off the purple. Chris
Guest Anonymous
Those dogbones transfer all engine vibration into the body of the car. If your lower mounts are getting bad you will feel a lot of vibration. Mine do the same thing. I wouldn't recommend using rapidfire plugs. I have seen for myself and heard from others that the platinum plugs have trouble keeping up with the boost.
90TGPGirl
Hmm, so have the lower engine mounts looked at?? It can't be good to have the whole car shaking like that. Guess I better call the mechanic while the car is there and have those checked out. And I'm sure the spark plugs have already been put in...dammit. When I ordered my TopGun chip, I got the 9 page fix-all packet from Jeff M. He recommended the Rapidfire's, that's why I got them.
Guest Anonymous
If Jeff recommended them then there must be something I don't know cause there was some discussion about this a while back. Did he specify if they were the platinum ones? Maybe he meant the original rapidfires, which weren't platinum. See how it runs when you get it back. Maybe it'll be ok. In the meantime I'm going to ask Jeff about the plugs. About the mounts, there is one mount on the passenger side bottom of the engine and one on the drivers side.(tranny mount) I had the dogbones on my TGP and it did shake. I took them off and tried them on my '89 SE and I thought the doors were going to shake off. They are back on the TGP now. Anyway, enjoy your car and I hope everything works out on it. SmokesGTP
Nice car, that color looks so good on it.
GnatGoSplat
Hmmm, you say it ran like crap... do you mean just from vibration, or does it actually lack power? If it's lacking in power, I'd suspect an ignition problem like crank position sensor, ignition module, or coil. Coils go out quite frequently on these cars. 90TGP
It's the dog bones. My car shook like crazy when I first put them on. But it's fine now.
90TGPGirl
Yep, I did find out that it was the dogbones creating all shaking. So, hopefully after driving it for a while, it'll stop. As for the lack of power, my car was in DESPERATE need of a tune-up. It was missing really bad at high rpm's. I'll have it back today. Thanks!
