hey kuntzie, what BRAND are/were you using for the stage 3 clutch?? cf, spec etc..?? also the stock replacements cost more than the aftermarket ones. i was looking at autozone. a ams one was $799 for a freaking clutch kit.. my clutchnet clutch and presure plate combined were not that much.

5spdz34. i bought mine from the fierostore. the 88 model fiero trannies(getrag 282) of that year and later are neutrally balanced just like the 284 flywheels. same tooth count, same diameter etc..

if u do get a 282 flywheel make sure it is neutrally balanced. i have been told all of them are 88 and up but my source was directly referring to the fiero ones and that is what i went with.

i was using a clutch from EZclutch off ebay.... while getting the tranny out, i did realizre there was a hloe where i didnt expect it to be, on the side of the housing.... so ya the trans is toast, all cosed by the shitty clutch, as it seemed a little funny to me since day one, but then again ive never had a stage 3 clutch before.... anyways the clutch pucks were like chipped and stuff and the splines or whatever on the center were loose, meaning my clutch was like slipping most likely alot- which would explain the axle issue as im told by many people.

ive put another trans in now (a reman aswell) and hopefully this one holds up well, ive also went back to the stock clutch, as i just wanted to get it back together, and wanted to see how it holds up to the power now., not to mention if it doesnt hold up, he motor and trans are comming out this winter anyways so its no big deal.

anyways- DONT BUY A EZclutch for a getrag 284... they told me that i was the 1st person to buy one from them (stage 3) for the 284. oh well they cant get them anymore as when i got it originally, they sent me the wrong dics and then again the wrong disc again ( it was right just the end wasnt machined for the release bearing to sit around it) nanyways had to get it machined and stuff.... they said they cant get me a clutch so im just getting a refund and going with the clutch my budy got as it is holding up great, from eurodrive i think it is, all custom made clutches and accessories

  • 3 weeks later...

i installed the clutch/plate and aluminum flywheel. quick question for you kuntzie, were your aftermarket clutches soft??? like it takes hardly any pressure to press the pedal down. there is no air in the line and it works perfectly, i suppose it is supposed to be "soft".

what are your thoughts/experiences??
