FordBoy Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 How difficult is it to change a lower intake gasket for my cutty? What parts/tools would i need? How long will it take? She had a oil leak for a while but resently just started to piss the oil out of it. So it need to get done ASAP. Thanks Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Its actually pretty easy to do, it just takes a long time. I did mine in two days... well the first day I took everything apart and cleaned the intakes. After that, I had enough of working on it for the day so I finished up the rest the hext day. You could easily do this in several hours. Really all you need is just some basic hand tools. And make sure you have a torque wrench when putting everything back together. Quote
FordBoy Posted October 10, 2006 Author Report Posted October 10, 2006 Do you happen to have a list of torque specs and how many/what gaskets do i need. I think theres more then just the lower intake. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Rockers 1st design 18ft lbs.Rockers 2nd design 89in. lbs. + 30 degrees LIM Step 1 62in lbs. (tighten the vertical bolts first) LIM Step 2 115in. lbs. (tighten the vertical bolts first) Valve Covers 89in. lbs. Youll need the LIM gaskets, the plenum gaskets and the oil pump drive seal o-ring ( while your there you might as well replace it since its like 50cents ) valve cover gaskets. Quote
FordBoy Posted October 10, 2006 Author Report Posted October 10, 2006 Y would valve cover have to come off??? And rockers???? Quote
Robby1870 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 You have to take the valve covers off to get the lower intake off, since the valve cover bolt to the lower intake. Rockers and pushrods need to come out because of how the lower intake gasket is. Also, might need a throttle body and EGR gasket. Quote
Euro Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 are those torque specs for his 2.8 tho? I just helped finish a rebuild on my buddy's 3.1 MPFI and the torque specs were a little different than that IIRC. But yeah, its really not that hard to do. It will take you a good day, or two do to it all. while your at it, i would get EGR and TB gaskets like robby said, and maybe some valve cover gaskets too just in case. Quote
FordBoy Posted October 10, 2006 Author Report Posted October 10, 2006 If all that is off can i change FI. Cause that will increase my mpg and mabie stop my idle missfire. Do heads have to come off to? Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 yeah you can. The fuel rails have to come off before the LIM comes out. Quote
PCGUY112887 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Isn't it fairly easy to replace the head gaskets while your at it? After the LIM is off woulden't it just be the head bolts and it's off? Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Not quite. Its still a little work. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Engine mounts, exhaust manifolds and Im sure theres something Im forgetting. Quote
Robby1870 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Engine mounts, exhaust manifolds and Im sure theres something Im forgetting. Sometimes the A/C compressor needs to come off to get at some of the passenger side engine mounts. Quote
