skiiirt
I was checking for the vacuum leak that is causing my ABS light to come on. I accidentally broke a small plastic vacuum line highlighted in the picture. The red line is where the old line went. The other side of the line i broke goes into the second picture What is this line?

Robby1870
Looks like the MAP sensor line to me. If that thing in the 2nd pic is the MAP sensor. Ive never seen an LQ1 MAP sensor to know for sure, but that looks similar to a 3.1L MAP sensor. But it could also be the Canister Purge solenoid vacuum line. So, I guess this post isn't that much of a help.
Supreme Cutlass
I'm pretty sure it's the MAP, the connector for the MAP is green, and red for the purge.
z284pwr
Yeah, that is a MAP sensor, that being unhooked would cause a lot worse running car than an ABS light..

I had actually picked up some soft vacuum lines instead of those hard, brittle ones to replace them, but ended up selling the car to Patrick. Anyways, you'll notice quite an idle difference and mpg difference.
Robby1870
Yeah, I always break those hard plastic lines too and usually swap them out for soft lines. The hard ones break really easily in the winter.
skiiirt
typical. I'll get it replaced with some quality material. Car goes in on Wednesday for a new bumper. What should I replace this line with so I dont have this problem? Where does the other end not discussed go? It appears to go somewher near the battery. It was getting dark so I couldnt see it. Could I temporarily plug both sides to avoid the shitty mileage?
Robby1870
no, if the MAP's not getting the correct reading you will get shitty mileage. So, plugging it wont make it better.
skiiirt
just so happens gas is dirty cheap here < 2.50/gallon! (as apposed to the 3.50 it was a while back) guess it wont be too hard on the pocket book till it gets fixed
marcusa
Get it fixed or you'll kill or clot your cat and get shitty performance (on top of lower mileage).

skiiirt
ahhh here comes the bad gas mileage! 70miles for a quarter tank. ouch Also looks like the paint shop is behind by 4 days so I got a few days of driving before I can get some work done. Maybe I can get my mechanic to fix it before it goes for bodywork! I hope ToroToro's mudflaps get here soon. The weather here sucks
5speedz34
IIRC-That line should control HVAC and your cruise control. Check out the link I posted in PsychoMatts vaccum thread, there are some helpful pics in there. BTW-That line that runs to the intake elbow and around the motor, is that rusted?! No way it's copper do you know how much that would cost? I'm just suprised that line is metal.
skiiirt
Got it done at the Dealership. We were discussing the sad state my vacuum lines were so they recomended we go with a stronger line. Its definately not rusted. I will take it to work and analyze the metal, see if i can't determine what it is. Its not a very big line so its not out of the realm of possibilities!
