gmrulz4u Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 I'm getting an oil change on Monday and have decided to go with Synthetic Oil. -Is there any brand that is recommended above others? -Is there any brand that I should avoid? -How many of you are using Sythetic Oil? -Is there any possible problems I should be aware of with this switch? -Do I need to use a specfic or different Oil Filter? By the way, it's a 2.8L Cutlass Supreme with 120,000 Miles(190,000 KMs). It's well taken care of... http://www.worldzone.net/auto/olds/owners/brewer.html If you guys can just give me any help and/or suggestions, I'd appreciate it greatly!) One reason for my switch is the fact that I live in Ontario, and the winter is coming, and I'm not good when it comes to warming up my car after starting it and before driving...I know Synthetic is way better in cold weather...we're talking below 0 with the windchill and dry... LukeZ34 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Mobil one synthetic oil AND tranny fluid.. I love it, I'll defiantly be running it in the cutlass when I get it. Quote
MaD Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Same here, Running Mobil 1 5W-30 and Mobil 1 ATF. Don't have someone do it. Do it yourself if you can, otherwise it'll be a $50+ oil change!! Oh, and I use a regular AC Delco PF52 oil filter. -MaD- Quote
gmrulz4u Posted October 3, 2002 Author Report Posted October 3, 2002 So should I use 5W or 10W??? I still don't really understand the diff?? Quote
TGPilot Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Whatever your engine recommends....I use and would never go less than 10W30 Mobil 1. Synthetic oil will not get thick on you when it is cold....not unless it is -40F Quote
gmrulz4u Posted October 3, 2002 Author Report Posted October 3, 2002 So when I do change my ATF to Synthetic, do I just do a regular change, or should I do the entire flush and fill procedure to change ALL the fluid, instead of the regular 1/3rd?? THANKS AGAIN:o) Quote
J Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 I use a oil called SCHAFFER (shay fer) (spelling) it's the best in my opinion. I get it free from my gf's dad. but anyway they send you a little bottle to send them your old oil and they will analyze it for the cost of shipping, Tell you how much of the crank and rings are in the oil.
