trainman
My son had the Monte yesterday and complained of the car not handling as good as it was last week. Turned out to be low tire pressures. I normally run my Goodyear NASCAR Eagles at 42psi(at lower pressure, the sidewalls tend to fold over during hard cornering), I found the tires at 37psi. This is due to the colder weather setting in, the colder air contracts resulting in lower pressures. A quick fill-up to 42psi, and the car tightened right up. Reminder to those in northern areas...........Recheck your tires, the cooler weather may have dropped pressures. Chris
19Cutlass94
Thats a little too much pressure for me. I like mine at 35psi front and 30psi rear. Works good for me. I just dont like pushing the limits of tire pressures seince most say dont go above 44psi....
Turbo231
42 psi seems a bit excessive...technically, what is on the door should be what is in your tires. 32 psi is max for me (my fiero is 28 psi). It's less about tire roll than it is about how the tire wears and the rideablity of the tire. If you're not wearing out the center of your tire, that's great, but I think you'll find you may have a slightly diminished contact patch to the road. Your tire/car was designed for a certain pressure...changing that only lowers the overall rating of the tire. If you are worried about tire roll...and I don't see why you would be (you aren't going to roll the tire off the wheel)...get a tire with more tread on the side (said fiero), or the best answer, a lower profile tire. Brian P
to be honest, I don't know how many miles are on your Nascars, but I have a set of Eagle GT-HR that handled horribly (the "fold-over" feel) until I drove on them about 10000 miles. Now they're good. I keep it at 35 front, 32 rear.
GutlessSupreme
I agree that 42 seems a bit high. I tend to fill mine to 37 or so.
trainman
Tire sticker pressures are O K for stock tires/wheels, the mfgr recommends the pressure that will give the most comfortable ride. I am running 16x7 Casino wheels....Goodyear suggested I start at 38psi and adjust to my liking from there. The sidewalls on the NASCAR Eagles are just too soft, I was told this was how they were made??? I have about 12000 miles on them and they are the same as when new. Next set will be Dunlops. The Monte is comfortable at 42psi, wear is even. When the winter tires(BFG's/stock aluminum wheels) go on next month, I will run them at 36psi....that works best for this combo. joey b
I always run mine at the max pressure on the tire wall.
1990lumina
I run 34psi in the summer - and 32psi in the winter (when I was still running all seasonals) Piece of shit aluminum wheels alwas leak air out when it starts to get colder at night...I've never had one steel wheel that's done that before lol
19Cutlass94
Ive found that Aluminum wheels dont like salt. My sawblades have always leaked air and that was why. Until we put a gallon of bead sealer between the 4 rims. Took car of that problem!
