Tubular Steel Manifold?

Curious. What models of W's would have 'Stock' tubular steel manifolds?

Turbo optioned 3.1's?

I was under the assumption that all W's were stock cast iron manifolds.

I checked my parts pamphlet and this was the listing for a front pipe or intermediate pipe.

TGP manifolds were also cast, not steel.

I think the difference is weight and heat dissipation. Cast iron tends to have a higher density than cold rolled and welded steel. I think steel has the greater chance of being dimensionally unstable and either warping to cause leaks or fail due to corrosion .

I just went through a 95' Hanes manual which shows at the time all the available engines and I found 3800's with Tube Steel Manifolds.

I'm again gonna go out on a limb and say that cast iron manifolds are cheaper as well since the process has less handcraft than the welded tube steel manifold. Although castings can have the disadvantage of imperfections... can anyone back this assumption?

Also Regals with the 3800..............their front manifold is tubular steel and the rear is cast iron.

3800's depends on the series.

Series 1 have full tubular exhaust manifolds. The series 2 have the tubular rear and cast front.
