Quick question for all of you who know these tranny's by heart....95 Cutlass Supreme.....This is my problem in so many words.....Normally when I'm on the Highway the car will rev at about 2000 at a speed of 100km/h.....once and a while(maybe once in a week) it will rev at 3000 when I'm doin 100km/h....Any ideas....I'm in a rush at work writing this ..I would searched the topic before hand.

Well, 3000 RPM @ 100km/h is around what it would turn in 3rd gear (Regular drive) with the Torque Convertor unlocked. I'm willing to guess that there is an electrical issue somewhere. Almost as if there is something triggering the shift solenoids, making the car downshift into 3rd. I Cant remember exactly what the A B solenoid combo is for 3rd and 4th at the moment though.

Might be a combination of a 4th gear is dieing, and a TCC as well. I am leaning to a TCC thou. If its bad, and say he pulls a hill where it would normally unlock, but doesnt. So as he progressivly slows down, it makes the car shift into 3rd, and also unlocking the TCC.

had that happen once to my on my 95 as well. I wiggled the tranny plug and it fixed itself and never happened again.

I have also dielectric greased all the plugs and contacts on my cars now, so that corrosion won't cause and future problems.

basically find that plug, whiohc is on the upper front of the tranmission (look beneath the radiator hose) remove clean it if necessary, di-electic (tune-up) grease it. and see what happens.

I mean it's not the end of the world, my gas milage hasn't changed...I'm hoping its not the forth gear...the car only has 63,000km on it ...but I also figured out something thinking back on it.....it really only has happened when it's cold or the car hasn't run for a good long while..example more than 8-10 hours...but like I said it happens very rarely...I would say 5 times in the last month...I drive 50km a day or more and I'm leaning towards and electrical problem.....thanks guys!!!

do you mean the car does this only when cold? That would be normal. the O/D and tcc do not operate when the transmission is cold, they will only engage when the tranny has reached minimum operating temp.

This morning was as cold as the last and she was running normal....mind you there was more traffic this morning so she had tme to warm up before I got on the highway....I looked at all the connections to the tranny made sure there was no loose harness or wires...we'll see what happens at the scan..I mean its only 45$ so It'll be done and if theres something wrong it'll get fixed if not then one less thing to think about.

hate to waste 45 for nothing.. I would wait and take it in immediately if it were ever to goof up again. I suspect that they would not find anything even if there was a problem anyhow.

I've started a car cold and been driving 70mph about 30 seconds later and it still it takes a bit for it to upshift, which occurs when it finally warms up. I hope you aren't confusing a cold tranny for a problem

yeah next time it's at 2000 rpm, lightly tap the brake pedal with your left foot. See if it goes to 3000 RPM like other times. If so, there's your problem. Tapping the brake pedal releases the TCC, but leaves 4th. So you have a TCC issue, especially if it's giving you problems after reaching operating temp too.
