red_z34
Hey guys, recently acquired a '94 lumina z34, that had an engine replacement.. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but i have a leak coming from the front passenger side, and its running down the oil and transmission fluid pans creating 3 different spots on the driveway..... It looks to be coming from the most lower (passenger side) accessory driven component, which i think is the power steering pump? This component is soaked in fluid as well as its surrounding area. I will get some pics of later, but for now, any ideas?? Thanks guys.... and there is always a problem when buying a new car. should have just kept driving what i have since it runs perfect. patgizz
the power steering pump is dead center on top.
red_z34
so its not the power steering pump? S.O.B does anyone know what that component is that im talking about?? Its driven by the accesory drive belt.......actually wait i'll go take a pic rite now... Ok.. this is what i think the leak is coming from......its the only single componenet that is most oil drenched.
RJansen658
That is the Air Conditioning Compressor.....if the leak is indeed coming from the compressor... it looks like there is a lot more oil on the compressor than what the system holds so I would bet you have a leak somewhere else that is collecting on the compressor. I would suspect a valve cover, the front timing cover (or possibly the front seal). BTW PAG (A/C) Oil is usually clear or dyed green.... if it is nasty black spots the car drips then I highly doubt it is from the compressor itself... and most A/C systems hold only a few ounces of oil.... Mach 5
Brake Clean the shit out of it and clean the area up good. Then kept a close watch on it. Try to see what color the fluid is.
red_z34
Well im pretty sure its an engine oil leak. Upon removing the passenger side front tire, i found the cv joint boot ripped (the boot closest to the engine) with grease from that everywhere, but i dont think that is causing the leak because that grease dosnt drip or spray. After cursing and swearing about having to get that repaired (i will take a pic later), i went on to further investigate my oil leak...which LOOKs like to be coming from behind the pulley which is right above the cv joint boot (im guessing a seal).....i will take a pic later so you can verify what im talking about... I think its the actual crank pulley?? Not sure. Hopefully not. Anyways if this makes any sense let me know and i will try to have pics up later tonite. Thanks guys. RJansen658
yea that sounds like the crank pulley, but... thats not really all that bad of a repair. The seal is cheap. I don't know how bad it is on the 3.4, but if its similar to the 3.1 it should be easy. Better that than a timing cover or valve cover. Post some pics, but it sounds like you're right about it being the crank pulley
