chadz34
Ok, well this has only happened once and it was last night, the car revved as if in neutral and then caught some gear and went....but hasn't happened since......is this a sign that my transmission is goign out or is there a chance that it may have been a one time thing. I also noticed that at night wih no music on I can hear a slight whine from the trans....I don't know if a little noise is right or not. Crazy K
happened twice to me in my 92. added a bit of extra fluid and never happened again. might be time to change the filter.
RJansen658
LOL, I changed my filter in my 93' and it has done that crap on cold days ever since. It loses gear all the time around turns, and sometimes when cold at stop lights. In the winter I will have to let it sit for 2-3 mintues in the morning running or it won't even go into gear. IMO changing a filter is risky on a high mileage trans, all it has ever done for me is wreck the trans. And I agree....IT"S GOING TO ASSPLODE
White93z34
as i recall chads car only has like 70,000 on it to begin with, i'd overfill it a little just to be safe. however it coud stand a fluid and filter change anyhow.

And I agree....IT"S GOING TO ASSPLODE I've never had any issues with filter changes on any high milage trannys. Hell, when i bought my cutlass, the fluid was black as tar and full of metal filings from the differential taking a shit. I flushed it out, threw in some new fluid and a filter, and its been great ever since.
chadz34
Awesome guys, thanks. I will get the transmission fluid changed and get the filter changed and I'll let you know what happens....I am happy though becuase I am now full time at work so I can finally afford to fix things....maybe even new paint in time..... 97loudcut
Okay drop the pan, let the old fluid drain out. But a new gasket, fluid, and buy this additive clean out the pan and the magnet and put all the fluid in. It worked wonders for my car. slick
Don't use the crappy aftermarket cork gasket, use the factory rubber gasket. Much better.
1990lumina
If the tranny is starting to whine, that's a sign of the pump wearig out....or so I've heard. Given that, my transmission whines all the time (always has) and it acts fine
digitaloutsider
My GP's transmission whined the last 100,000 miles of it's 180,000 mile life.
CSI_MuNkY
My transmission has whined since I got it a year ago, and it performs just fine. I'm not too worried about it because when I first noticed it I was told by a mechanic that it was normal for this transmission. Now I can't hear it whining though, the whine of my power steering pump drowns it out, lol... should probably get that looked at...
