97loudcut
we cleaned my terminals at work and then (while the car was running) we disconnected the battery from it and the car died. Most of the time this means alternator. I went to AutoZone and bought an Alternator and while i was there I tested my old one and it passed but you could tell the bearings were going bad due to its squeaking. Anywho, I installed the new alternator (in the dark with a flashlight I may add) and I will update if the problems occure again.
19Cutlass94
Just becuase you can hear the bearings, doesnt mean its bad. Mines been like that for years, and its still going. BTW, when you where there, did they tell you how many volts/amps it was putting out?
97loudcut
no.. but this one has a lifetime warranty and if the problem eccours again I can eliminate for sure battery terminals and alternator. Ill just do process of elimination lol.
BCM
I can hear mine too when the windows are down, and it even squeaks if its humid enough, but I don't think its the alternator though. I think its the idler pulley, cuz when i spray WD40 on it, it stops....for 5 minutes

97loudcut
the problem has ceased. so I don't understand..the old alt. tested fine (at my work and auto zone) but I decided to put a new one in anyways. Now the problem has stopped.
19Cutlass94
Even though it did fix the problem ( not really sure why ) its not really 'good practice' ( if you will ) to just throw parts in an see what works and what doesnt. Its like problem solving, remember back in middle school, except with a car now! but either way, good things its over.
Regal_GS_1989
I'll bet there was a bad/loose connection at the alt to begin with.
