Can I change JUST the Voltage Regulator?

Can I change JUST the Voltage Regulator and NOT the entire Alternator?? Because In understand that with these engines, the VR is located internally, inside the alternator...

Because I'm starting to think mine is screwed up...

Also, is it true that Voltage Regulators have some sort of "Temperature Compensation" mechanism??

If so, I think that's the problem with mine...it's NOT compensating....

Any help?

THANKS)

I know the reg. for the 3.4 is internal, serviceing means replace alt. Dont know about other engines.

You can, provided you can find someone to sell you one and are willing to solder.

yes, you can change just the regulator. I rebuilt my alt.(cs-130) over the summer and it is a seperate part inside the alt. It does, howerer, require a little bit of work opening up the alt. You you can find parts at http://www.alternatorparts.com. Voltage regulators are $20 I think.[/url]

My AC Delco reman with lifetime warranty was just $60.

Sometimes you need to do a cost/benefit analysis of replacing a part or replacing an assembly. In some cases, it's not worth the effort/time to replace just a single component, especially on one of these alternators because they fail for many different reasons and a lifetime warranty on the entire alt will cover you for any future failure.
