Hmmm...Steering Wheel Heater Controls

Dark Ride

Recommended Posts

Okay, Went to the Junkyard and got another steering column for the TGP. Walked in, Looked it over briefly, paid for it, went home. Got Home and noticed that the steering wheel controls had temp controls on them and thought WOO HOO. Thats awesome! :peace: After My Brief Victory Dance, I thought Hmm...How do I make these Work? And so here I am. Anyone know how to do this. Also I'd like to use one of those IR Radio interface things for an Aftermarket deck, but if that won't work no worries.

The only steering wheels that had temp controls were in Cutlasses... I think they might only work with the electronic climate controls also found in the Cutlass..

CS? it will work only in the CS. sorry dude. The values off ALL SWRC are the same but have different functions. if you put it in your car, you'll just have a bunch of mislabeled radio controls. Ho way to interface it with you climate control What color are they? I need a spare TRUE BLACK one. I also need a RED one

They're Gray. So Can I Just put the normal Radio Controls from the TGP Column into this one and still use the column since the values are the same?

YES. consider though that as you say that... the values of the SWRC are in the SWRC switch themselves..

the column should be identical in most every other way, exept for mionr differences in the tilt adjust, and shifter handle if equipped. sometimes the mulifunction switch may change colors as well.... but those three parts pop on and off, and can be changed. So interchange should not be an issue... Unless... If your car has seperate rear bralke and turn signal lights, if might have a different switch (I do not know)

I need no gray, sell them to someone else in need.

how much you want for that steering wheel? huh....

I need the steering wheel, but would gladly sell the controls, since they won't work for me anyway.

Cool, I'll be puting the new column in sometime soon, so I'll let you know if I come across any problems

Thanks,

Mitch

would climate controls from 94+ airbag work on a 92? my steering wheel is beat and I think that the airbag wheels, although not functional in my vehicle, look better.

They have the same resistor values and functions, but they hook up differently. You'd have a hard time picking up a swrc airbag one anyhow... especially one in good shape. But you should be able to just put in a non-swrc airbag if you want.

Ok, I was working on the new steering column yesterday, (Dyeing the steering wheel back to gray, it was pretty faded.) I pulled the steering wheel controls out and noticed that they said "Pontiac" Right on them. Now I'm confused because I thought they were only available in the cutlass. I'm kinda curious to see the car it came out of.

The only thing that comes to mind is that someone swapped the factory steering wheel with one out of an older Bonneville SSE, or maybe a high end 6000. Those May have had steering wheel climate controls.
