92 GP
Don't suppose this is good? Lets play guess the part. Okay i don't feel like waiting around. That's the tranny pumpshaft from my 4T60-E on my '96 GTP. WHOOPS. For guys who don't know a lot about the transmission pieces...that shaft you see. First off those splines you see that twist around, well those are supposed to be straight. And there should be another like, couple inches of spline on there....bwaha. DAMNIT. For the guys who do know trannies will know that i'm fucked. The bearings went bad, the tip snapped, and all hell broke lose. Again, for slightly more lamens terms, this shaft is basically what engauges the gear shafts into the torque converter. Which also leads to me needing new torque converter. The guy from the shop called, who's had quite a bit of experience and told me he wasn't even going to attempt rebuilding. He said once he pulled it off, he was like :willynilly: BUT he said he had another tranny there, rebuilt, from a '00 GTP...teeheehee So yea, $1700, i've got yet ANOTHER transmission. 19Cutlass94
Ouch that sucks! So what exactly were you doing when this happened?
92 GP
Yea it sucks man. Actually at the exact moment it happened, i had been just cruising on the highway. I was on a 2 hour trip to my college from home. I'm on the highway for a good 90 miles, just cruisin at about 85ish closer to 90. Just movin along then the RPMs just jumped. I knew it wasn't anything big, like the diff or an axle, because it was so smooth. The car didn't bump, no resistance feeling, just real smooth. Pulled over, went through gears and nothing happened. That's when i thought you know, maybe valvebody, maybe torque converter...But noooo. Of course they both went as well.
Regal_GS_1989
Ouch. I'm surprised the thing twisted like that.
92 GP
yea no kidding. And the fact like 1" is just...gone...and what really gets me, where it reeled off, the tip is almost completely flat/smooth, except one VERY small barely visible nipple from where it finally severed

FastSE2DR
So you are using the 65-HD now?
92 GP
5spd swap LOL I wish i could do it on this one. But all the 5spd parts went into the '92 So you are using the 65-HD now? Correct.
Crazy K
btw whats the status of the 92? I've seen nothing lately on the crazy crazy stuff you were having done to it sucks about the tranny though.

I've seen nothing lately on the crazy crazy stuff you were having done to it sucks about the tranny though. Ah, it's very slowly progressing. I've got the engine out and whatnot. Doing the 5 spd swap to it...right now i'm trying to finish the engine build. Nothing short of top of the line stuff It's not gonna get very far for a while. I gotta cough up the rest of the $1800 to fix this damn tranny. I'm lookin into a job offer i've got here by school. It's at an Advance. I worked at that O'Reilly for about a year, so the advance is needing me to come in as a night manager, that might be promising. It's not even close to the good side of town though...and since i'm 6'5/white, I'd be the most abundant source of light in that part of town at night time when i close I'm looking into some more goodies for it though. Plans haven't stopped, but income almost has..currently living off $50/week until i get another job :willynilly: :willynilly:
Brian P
so what are you gonna do to control the 65-E? Changing the computer and whatnot? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=180006561409&ih=008&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT I see those shafts usually get ruined where the bearing rides. I'm surprised it won't get rebuilt, it's not really a big deal unless you burnt the tranny, though you shouldnt have. Just throw in a used or reman converter. Now, when my tranny sheared the reverse reaction drum, THAT was a big job. Complete gut of all the hard parts.
92 GP
Yea that must have been a fun job. As far as the computer goes, i really have no clue what happened. I called and talked to the guy, and he said he had another rebuilt transmission from the newest style GP. Now I COULD have misunderstood that, but i'm pretty sure I heard right. I went over to check on it today, and when i walked up they were closing the hood. He backed it right out and took off for a test drive, so apparently it functions right. Perhaps his "rebuilt" unit was a hybrid, per say a 60-E shell and main goodies with 65-E parts? I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure the 65-EHD and 60-E pump shaft are a bit different though, so I'm not quite sure. Right now I'm waiting for the check to come in. I didn't have money up front, so my grand parents (looooooooooooooaded) sent the guy a check to pay for it, and then i'm paying them back. I was going to just finance it, but my grandpa refused to let me pay interest. My grandfather is the MOST penny-wise person that i've ever, and ever will meet. It's stupid. He bought grandma's G35 and his Mercury Grand Marquis last year, paid for both within a week. Paid straight up cash for them. No shit. He's been working for Bud Adams in Houston (he used to own the Houston Oilers, still has a massive oil company) for like, 50 years. So he's got no problem with money. That's another story though But yea, the bearing was pretty damn bad. He said once the bearing went and all, that it just went nuts. I'm not completely sure, the auto tranny is the only thing i've never really messed with in cars. The first time i blew a 4T60 (2nd gear clutch assembly) I took off the side cover, the bottom pan, and whichever plate was there and started crying

If he used parts from the other tranny or what. Maybe the newer GP was a '97? In that case it has the 60e as long as it wasn't a GTP. Yeah, believe me. Rebuilding a tranny is something I do NOT want to do ever again. It's not even the money. I pissed so much time away on it it's unreal. My car is nomally driven 2700 miles per month. Last month? 12-

I wanna say he used GTP parts, if not at least newer style 60-E parts. Oh well fuck it! I want my car back! Plus the '96 is only a daily anyway...lol. Yea i drive all the time. My poor '92's not seen roadtime at all this year
