Z34-5speed
Alright. I just bought a can of seafoam and i am wondering what the best way to clean the engine with it will be. I have heard ya'll talk about putting it through the brake line or something like that, if this is the case, could some1 give me instructions on how to properly do this. A picture of what line i need to remove would be nice also. Will this harm the engine in any way? Is it worth the time and effort? Thanks for the help. slick
There is a vacuum line that runs from your brake booster to your intake manifold. On the brake booster end, just pop off the vacuum line, and slowly pour the seafoam in. But, be careful. You will need someone to hold the throttle around 2000 rpm or so, or else with the vacuum line undone it will stall. Also, if you try to pour too much into the line at one time, it will stall as well. I'd recommend only doing half a can, and pouring the rest into a 3/4-full gas tank to clean out the fuel system as well. Once you have poured half in, let the car stall, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. During this time, reattach the vacuum line. Once you start it back up, take it for a bit of a drive to start working it all around and out. Once the tank of gas has been used, you will want to change your oil. I would also recommend checking and cleaning your spark plugs while your at it. I have heard of Seafoam fouling plugs. It's not always the case, but it's something to check. 97loudcut
w00t I did this Sunday but I didn't think I did it enough. So today I bought another can and I put 1/2 a can in the brake booster and I have never seen so much smoke in my life. Car runs great (not like it didn't before). Also I added about 1/3 of the can to my gas tank and I have been going WOT everywhere I go trying to waste gas. Gone through 3/4 of a tank in 24 hours w00t. Change da oil afterwards, forget the spark plugs.
CSI_MuNkY
A picture of what line i need to remove would be nice also. x2! I'm a visual learner... you can say brake booster vaccuum hose all day and I damn near guarentee I will grab the wrong hose. forget the spark plugs Yeah... LQ1... spark plugs.... I'll leave that till I take it in for a tune up! PITA! Jamie

CSI_MuNkY
Take your pick, dunno which would be best for you... Thanks! Jamie
Psych0matt
see the line coming off the plenum with the zip tie thing holding it on, next to the tranny stick? use that. follow it a ways until it connects to something, and then use that to suck it into the plenum
97loudcut
Pull this off, the engine will want to stall but hold open the throttle (don't be maxing your engine out, just enough to keep it running), take that hose and slowly suck up half a can. After it is all gone sit there and rev it for a couple minutes >insert huge cloud of smoke<. Shut if off and take it for a ride 5 minutes later >insert more smoke clouds<. Drive it till it stops smoking and you have "successfully seafomaed your LQ1. Oh and dump the other half of the can into your fuel tank. Then drive your car till its on "e" and fill up again and go change your oil.
Regal_GS_1989
LQ1 Spark Plugs are Easy as hell to change. Just remove the weather stripping from the back and use a spark plug socket, long extension and a Swivel. Took me all of 5 minutes the first time I did mine. CSI_MuNkY
Just remove the weather stripping from the back and use a spark plug socket, long extension and a Swivel. Hmmm... suppose it sounds like it would work... I'll have to give it a shot, cause I know I need new plugs, I'm due for an oil change any day now.... I guess I just gotta try and find some of this seafoam stuff... *edit* Yeah, no luck... I can't get the extension down there, even then I think the only extension I have is about 6 inches too short Jamie
1990lumina
You can also use GM Top Engine Cleaner....or in Canada I think it's called KLEENS or something like that....ask Dave (C-BAD), he'll know
Regal_GS_1989
Ok, i couldnt remember whether or not I used a 6 in, or a 12 in extension. It must have been the 12 in. Once you feel around with the socket in there, you'll figure out the angle that you need, and the rest will all come easily. You will need the swivel right before the socket. Z34-5speed
Alright, i seafoamed the car about 2 hours ago. I have been driving around getting all the smoke out of the car. I really can't tell if it has made a differance. This might be due to my suspected bad timing. Do exactly as the people in the thread have said with the seafoam and it will work out fine.
