Coil went bad, car was smoking, why?

so here's my theory on the smoking issue (Even tho the topic has changed in here already ...)

the unburned fuel was gettin' into the catalytic converter, causing it to heat WAY up and that extra heat was comming back up thru the exhaust system, and causing any little bits of oil/grease/dirt/grime/whatever on the engine to burn off a lil' bit...

almost every time I've had a car drop a coil, or ICM, the cat has almost always started glowing.
