RJansen658 Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 What would be the best radiator for the swap guys? So far, I have found the standard 3.1L Lumina radiator for 3 spd trans, the standard 3.1L Lumina radiator for 4 spd trans, and the 3.4L Lumina radiator. I am wondering if there is mch of a difference, or if perhaps the 3.4L radiator is better. GM doesnt really give me too much technical specs on the radiators, anyone have any direct knowledge of differences? Quote

GM doesnt really give me too much technical specs on the radiators, anyone have any direct knowledge of differences? what about the 3800 buick radiator? as for the two different 3.1 radiators, the difference is the side that the tranny cooler is installed on, and hench, the internal tranny coolers cooling capacity. (avoid the 3 speed one!) Quote
jdcutty Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 If that was the only three choices that I had, I would go with the 3.4 radiator. Otherwise try to find one out of a L36 or L67 car. Quote
timg Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 IIRC, the LQ1 had a 1 3/8" radiator with built in transmission cooler, the L67 was 1", and the L36 was 5/8" thick. Tim Quote
RJansen658 Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 Good Info!! I know I can use a Z34 LQ1 radiator, no problems, but since the 1st gen Luminas didn't come L67 powered, will an L67 radiator even mount into the core support? Currently I am looking for aftermarket options.... but full aluminum radiators are VERY pricey.... 90sEraWhips 1 Quote
J Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 they don't ahve to be, the local shop makes them for our shop http://www.manciniracing.com and we get them for a few hundred bucks and sell them for about $400-600. I'd look into that! Quote
