jrl5h7
i recently replaced my oil pump (1990 pontiac grand prix, 3.1 N/A, 176000 miles) and, of course, the oil pan gasket as well. the pump is working great, but the gasket( definately the gasket and not any other leaks that i have read about) is leaking 1 quart/20 miles. all surfaces were cleaned thouroghly, pan was straight, bolts were torqed properly, and no sealer was used(as per FelPro instructions). i am going to drop the pan again and use a gasket adhesive on a new gasket. was wondering if there was any further, or better advice on this subject. Addicted To Boost
Is it a cork gasket or a rubber one? Cork gaskets are known to leak horribly.
GP1138
I'd be amazed if they made a cork oil pan gasket.
jrl5h7
Sorry I forgot about tying up this post. It is a rubber gasket. I re-torqued the pan and drove it about a hundred miles, adding oil every 20. When I got to my destination, i put it up on jack stands. I had someone start it and it was the pressure sending unit; dripping once, then twice, and then pissing in my face. It left oil marks on the pan that started at the gasket, causing my thoughts of it being the gasket, which was leaking before I re-torqued it. Hasn't leaked a drip since. Thanks for the input though.
