97loudcut
My roomates 3.4 Cutlass won't start She said when she goes to turn it on it makes noise but not like it wants to turn over. They tried jumping it and that did not work.

Psych0matt
does the solenoid click? or does it just not want to turn over even though it engages?
JakeMetz63
Ran it low on oil because of the O-ring leak, go ahead and swap in a new engine. Starter or disconnected cables would be my best guess.

Without remembering the year, if it's a '94-95 check the Pass-key chip on the ign key, heck if there's a spare key, use it.

Matt if you went out and tried to jump it, how could you not hear what sound its making? I'm going with dead battery.
Regal_GS_1989
Check the aux post and all the other connections around the battery. I've seen a few cars that have power, but die off completely and make no noise when trying to start. If all that checks out, and it still doesnt start, then try a different battery. jdcutty
Smack her then tell her to put it into park. I would go with a loose cable on the starter or a loose ground cable.
SigEpCutlass
Did you use the aux post to try and jump it or did you use the terminals on the battery? I'm willing to bet you the aux post went bad or it's ground is corroded. I had to replace mine for the same reason after I couldn't get my car jumped from it one time. Otherwise, if you can't jump it from the battery directly, then I would say that there is a problem with either the starter or the alternator (depending on what if any noise the solenoid makes).
