lbhskier37
Doing the brakes on my 92 Regal. When putting the front caliper back on I can't get the top caliper bolt all the way back in, it is getting way tight with about 1/4" left. I think I might have buggered up the threads in the caliper because it does the same with either bolt. Since this is just a pin and not a real bolted joint do you think it will work ok like this provided it doesnt walk out? Also I can't for the life of me get the rear rotors off. I removed the caliper, but it seems like they are just welded onto the hub. Any good way to get them off? Third is the parking brake, how do I get tension off that damn cable? Pontiac6KSTEAWD
Rear Brake Rotor = Just take a 5 LBS hammer to it, and hit it in a circular pattern until the rust breaks loose. It will eventually come off. Front Brake Bolt = You are going to have to rethread the housing or as some other people say "clean the threads". I cant for the life of me think of the tooks name. But you take the tool, and just start screwing it in over your threads on the bracket. Once it hits the burm or bad thread, it will start cutting it to conform to the old thread. Taking the tension off the E-Brake - What I do is manually turn on the e-brake on the rear caliper with either a channel lock or vice grip. Then I worm the cable off the rear caliper. Thats about the only way I know to do it.
Regal_GS_1989
The tool is either a tap or a die, I'm pretty sure that its a tap.

lbhskier37
You guys know offhand what size thread those bolts are?
Pontiac6KSTEAWD
You can rent a tap and dye set from autozone. You want to match up the thread pitch as well as the size of the bolt. I dont know if their rental kit goes up as big as the bracket bolts for the caliper, but its worth a shot. Just take your bolt with you when you go to the parts store and match it up. I think you are going to have to go to sears for that size thou.
jdcutty
Also if you still cannot get the rear rotor off, you can heat it up around the hub with a propane torch and then hit it with a hammer. Also, are you replacing the rear calipers or just the pads? If you are not replacing the caliper then you dont need to mess with the ebrake cable. Crazy K
I do not know how far along you are on the rear brakes.... But i always recommend the upgrade: read http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,38050.0.html http://www.tpsgarage.com/TGP/brakes/rear_brake_upgrade.htm
lbhskier37
well I am kinda wishing I would've done the brake conversion, but it is too late for that now. I did have one problem with the back brakes. I couldn't get the right side parking brake cable over the actuator level. It has that stupid spring on the cable, I couldn't figure out a way to get the spring pulled back enough to get the cable back over. Also on the left side, the brake cable doesn't seem to want to release enough so that it constantly locks that brake. I can't get the adjuster under the drivers door to give more slack because it is too rusted up. So in the end I just said to hell with it and disconnected the p-brake on both sides. I never used the p-brake before, so I figure having it disconnected shouldn't hurt anything.
