GrandAmSE Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I'm doing the upper air intake and valve covers. How should I do this and what color? The cars going to be blue with black trim. So blue to match the car or black to match the trim? Quote
Psych0matt Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 IMO, anything other than black or silver look kinda gaudy. I say go black, or what I'm doing is sanding them down past the chipped up coating and just making them clean. some people have even gone another step and polished them up to an almost mirror finish Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 When I did my intakes and valve covers, I cleaned them up then took a copper wire brush to them. They turned out pretty good and they are still clean. Polishing to a mirro finish is tooo much work IMO. I would just go with the bare Al look. Quote
GrandAmSE Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 My car will be just a little darker then your cutty. OK black it is. Thanks. Quote
intern8tion9l Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 black or bust ..eww haha Quote
GrandAmSE Posted September 22, 2006 Author Report Posted September 22, 2006 How hard is it to polish them? Quote
fastbird232 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 You lucky bastards with your six-cylinder engines... Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Not our fault! polishing them, would be a great effort. Quote
GrandAmSE Posted September 23, 2006 Author Report Posted September 23, 2006 So how do you do it? I'd probably only do the front one. Quote
1990lumina Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 go down many grits of sand paper.....then wet sand and use some metal polish........I't sbeen covered before but I won't tell you to search, because I always try using it and it frustrates me on how it turns up the most IRrelevant hits... what engine is this BTW?? Quote
GrandAmSE Posted September 23, 2006 Author Report Posted September 23, 2006 3.4 Dohc. I think I'll do the polishing. Quote
1990lumina Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Get a pic of z34_nut's engine bay that's what you wanna achieve!!! Quote
Psych0matt Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 this is what mine looks like right now. not polished, but cleaned up from the painted crap a bit Quote
fastbird232 Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 That was as far as I got before I realized how much work it was going to take. But a polished 3.4 cam cover is a think of beauty. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 It isnt easy, but the results are well worth the time! Quote
