Painting valve covers?

Recommended Posts

I'm doing the upper air intake and valve covers. How should I do this and what color? The cars going to be blue with black trim. So blue to match the car or black to match the trim?

IMO, anything other than black or silver look kinda gaudy. I say go black, or what I'm doing is sanding them down past the chipped up coating and just making them clean. some people have even gone another step and polished them up to an almost mirror finish

When I did my intakes and valve covers, I cleaned them up then took a copper wire brush to them. They turned out pretty good and they are still clean. Polishing to a mirro finish is tooo much work IMO. I would just go with the bare Al look.

go down many grits of sand paper.....then wet sand and use some metal polish........I't sbeen covered before but I won't tell you to search, because I always try using it and it frustrates me on how it turns up the most IRrelevant hits...

That was as far as I got before I realized how much work it was going to take. But a polished 3.4 cam cover is a think of beauty.

I sanded off all the old paint and sprayed it silver alum. and it looks great. Pics coming soon.
