Brake Job Time

Well now that I am keeping it it needs some brakes.

I belive the back brakes are fine (pas and rotors) so I was only going to do the front rotors and pads.

I was thinking about getting some slotted rotors, drilled rotors, or drilled and slotted but I really don't know.

My price range is anything under $300

Links, advice, anything is appreciated.

Also if I do end up going with drilled or slotted up front is it going to be stupid having those brakes up front and normal ones in back?

Curious about your input

I would suggest bleeding the brakes, since it's probably never been done before. Get that old brake fluid out and get some new clean stuff in. New brake fluid will make a difference. Also, I would spend money on stainless brake lines rather than fancy rotors. That's just me though.

Unless you are planning on spending a decent amount on just rotors, slotted or drilled, I would just buy a good set of premium rotors, either from the dealer (AC Delco) or Raybestos. Buying those slotted/drilled ones is really only asking for trouble, they warp easier, crack easier, and are difficult to have turned when the pads are changed next time. For $200 you can get all GM parts from the dealer, or Carquest deals with Raybestos, I'm sure other places out that way do too.

I know earlier on you posted that you may need some help with them. You pretty cool on doing them now, or still need some tips? It is pretty straight forward, although I will advise you to get a 3/8" drive breaker bar and a long pipe you can put over the breaker bar for leverage. Those torx bits will most likely be a bitch to take off.

I plan on helping him, if I can get my shit together.

Don't skimp on the back brakes! I've found that they wear out quicker than the fronts (even on my 04 Impala!) Even if you don't plan on spending the green on rear rotors, at least put on a set of fresh pads back there and save yourself a headache down the line.

And another thing: Buy the proper TORX bit for removing the front caliper bracket bolts. If you use a hex-head bit, you'll strip out the head(s) of those bolts and it'll bring about another headache the next time you change your rotors...

if you do plan on getting drilled ones, be sure to get good ones that were made with the holes in them, not had the holes drilled in after the fact, those ones are asking for trouble.
