MonteCarloChick Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 So lately as I'm driving I've been hearing a sort of flapping sound coming from the back end of my car. It stops when the car stops and speeds up as I go faster. Just wondering what it is.. Thanks Quote
Psych0matt Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 are you sure you dont have a cat with its tail caught in the wheel, flipping and hitting the ground with it's face every time the wheel goes around once? Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 That was my first thought! Only in my thought it was a coon Quote
Intlcutlass Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Have you have any body parts off as of late? If not I would look for loose weather stripping. Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 Well to me it sounds like it's coming from under the car.. somewhere near the back wheels. Quote
Psych0matt Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 i had a bunch of small rope wrapped around my axle at one point this spring (from holding my cover down) that made a similar sound, anything like that? Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Are your tires properly mounted and balanced (especially balaned)? Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted September 14, 2006 Author Report Posted September 14, 2006 Well I just had them rotated about 5 months ago.. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 get under your car and start looking for something foriegn or loose. Maybe a shifted belt in a tire??? Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 Are you sure it's not a noise coming from a bad wheel bearing then? I have my tires perfectly mounted/balanced & I have a similar noise coming from a bad wheel bearing. Too bad you can just replace the bearing, but you have to replace the entire hub assembly. Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted September 15, 2006 Author Report Posted September 15, 2006 get under your car and start looking for something foriegn or loose. Maybe a shifted belt in a tire??? Already did that.. And wheel bearing eh? I didn't know it made that kind of sound but I'll check it out. Thanks! Quote
terryk2003 Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 i actually had one of my wheels come loose on my cutlass...made a sound that almost sounded like the brakes were messed up, but it didnt change if i was hitting the brakes or not...i pulled over on the side of the road and wanted to pull the wheel off to see if i could figure out what was wrong, and when i went to take it off, i realized it was really loose...sooo, you may wanna just confirm all your lugnuts are tight...also, is it possible you have something stuck in one of your trim rings?... Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted September 15, 2006 Author Report Posted September 15, 2006 The trim rings are on the rim air tight Quote
Q-Ball Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 Do you feel the vibration? For me, somehow I snapped both of my rear sway bars clamps. They were rusted out and all crappy. I finally got my camera back today, so I can update my thread and show you. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 I'll add to the list- bad radial belt in tire. I've had it happen. Thump thump thump almost like a flat tire... changes at different speeds. Quote
