dohc v6
Ok I relocated my battery to the back and am have some trouble. Not with the moving of the battery, getting the car to start. I am using 4 ga wire from the positive terminal where it used to connect to the battery and the ground 4ga to the strut tower. I started the car 3 times and fine and the 4th it would barly start, I mean barly. what did i do wrong. I understand I need to clean it up but first what do i need to do to fix it. slick
Might just be your starter or starter solenoid going out. I've had similar problems in the past.
dohc v6
I think that exactly it. how hard is it to replace on the 3.
slick
I think that exactly it. how hard is it to replace on the 3.4 Not hard at all. You may have oil cooler lines in the way, but with enough muscle, you can move those out of the way.
dohc v6
no oil cooler on the 94. that suck for me, but in this situation it wont haha I love 94. Ok i know how to diconnect the wires how do i get the solinoid out of the housing. any tricks. also I have to hold my foot on the gas to start the car with the battery in the front. and with out doing that it take 3-4 cranks to start. Its the solinoid
slick
I would just replace the whole thing. In fact, get one from a 2000+ 3100/3400 equipped vehicle. The starter is a bit smaller and lighter weight.
dohc v6
I think a solinoid is 20 bucks. I will replace it and When i drop my new motor in I will drop in a new starter. whats the deal with the new starters, are they exactly the same. no modifications to make work. slick
No modifications, bolt right up. Smaller, lighter, and they are either gear reduction or high torque. I forget which they are(or maybe both). There has been a few topics on this in the past. A quick search(don't use the search function, it blows, just click back pages in the performance section) should yield a few topics.
dohc v6
damn thank for the heads up. I will do that for sure
Psych0matt
I put one of those on when i did my swap. bolts up exactly, and i think it sounds better too. doesnt have the same weak-bear growl, more of a strong-squirrell sound. yeah, that made no sense, but it sounds more modern and up to date if you will. dohc v6
I REALLY HAVE NO IDEA. PLEASE HELP ME
Turbo231
Hello, I'm sure you've covered the basics...like your battery is good. Say it is, just having a body ground might not be enough for your car. My Buick has the battery ground right to the engine block and the positive right to the starter. The actual body ground is a very thin wire...good for accessories, but not much else. My engine ground failed one time, and while the car would turn over, it was very weak...come to find out, it was using the little body ground wire, which would get very warm and the more I used it, the slower it would start. Long story short, try a better ground.
dohc v6
So should I change the ground in the trunk or add a ground from the starter to the body in the engine bay. I dont think I can put a 2g wire from the starter to the body. But why would it work when its cold and not hot.
slick
Did you replace the whole starter/solenoid combination or just the solenoid?
dohc v6
just the solinoid.
patgizz
the engine ground stud is one of the tranny bellhousing bolts, not on the starter
dohc v6
so what are you saying
AWeb80
when i put my battery in the trunk, i left the original wires there and hooked the positive from the trunk to the remote terminal in the engine bay. I then have two grounds on the battery, so I wired both of those to the frame in thte trunk. Its kinda a mess, but, i've since cleaned it up. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v639/AWeb/Battery%20Relocation%20and%20Fender%20Well%20Intake/
dohc v6
well i ran two grounds 4ga to the strut tower in the back from the battery and a ground strap from the fraim rail to the tranny bellhousing. It sees to have fixed the problem-4 starts and all is good hopefully it starts tomorrow after class gets out
dohc v6
please let me build you an intake for that thing. No offense but that looks like it could use a little touch up. If you send that to me I will make you an exact match, in all aluminum polished piping and silicone couplers. Any body else need one for that year and motor? It will look like this [attachment deleted by admin] Removed to free up storage space.
AWeb80
LOL, my intake is better now. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v639/AWeb/CAI%20Pics/
dohc v6
My offer still stands. It looks good but does it do anything. Also with that rubber 45* it will deterioriate in less then 6 months. Unless it is marine butal rubber. Let me know and seriously not trying to be a dick its just you have a set up that I can duplicate for a lot of people.
