AWeb80 Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 I am gonna change the oil in my Civic's MXT. Welll, it takes engine oil, but the owners manual says to use a SG or SF grade or higher.....What does that mean... I know this has my honda in the question, but this thread is about oil, so not sure where to put it. Quote
mihela816 Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Those are some ancient standards. It goes alphabetically, the higher, the better. SM is the newest. Quote
AWeb80 Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Posted September 12, 2006 so SM is crappier..... you got a link to info on this stuff somewhere. Quote

You can't get SG or SF. All new oil is going to meet the latest certs. It's like a older car that takes bias ply, sure the owners manual might say to get those, but radials weren't around at the time of printing and they are mich better. Quote
