Well I replaced both bearings on the car over a week ago.

The torque wrench was set to 60lb.ft. and one of the bolts snapped. Blame aside (my brother not holding the wrench at 90* or fatigued bolt steel - I blame the latter), I have a 1/4" of thread poking out the face of the bearing.

Theres 2 ways I can think of to get the partial bolt out.

1. Put some kind of nut on it. Weld and continue tighten/twisting pulling the bolt all the way through the face of the bearing. (problem is putting heat to a part containing a bearing)

2. With a grinder. Flaten the bolt threads on positions 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock in a way to create a bolt head to get a wrench on it and tighten/twisting it to pull it through the face of the bearing.

is there a #3 I am not thinking of?

Opinions?

Drill in with a small drill bit and use an easy out?

The steel is rather hard (not hard enough to snap though).

Is it possible to get a bit through to easy out it?

Dont see why not. Another option is to weld a smaller bolt on to the top of that bolt...

I think welding would be a bad idea considering this is a bearing.

crazy the same thing happened to me on my passenger side wheel bearing when i replaced it, i had grerat luck and the bolt came right out with my fingers, went to the auto store and bought a new one, and problem solved.

good luck getting it out

welding shouldn't be too bad. We are just talking about a spot weld, not some heavy duty high heat. I don't think and EZ out will work well for you. And they do snap rather easily. I would first grind off to put a wrench on, that is a great idea. Maybe just a bit and throw some visegrips on there.
