mra32
so ive been noticing some smells coming from my powertrain when im on the gas a little. I will describe further: On my way home from work, I have to go up a very long and mildly steep hill. I will be on the gas the whole time going around 40 in seoncd gear in my 125c. Sometimes i smell a stinky sort of smell. Its like a very watered down skunk sort of smell. I realize that this could be cars in front of me, but the cars in front of me are always newer higher end cars. I'm thinking that it might be running lean, but thats just a blind guess. I suppose i'm wondering if its normal. second smell. So I was driving my girlfriend back to school today and i was on the onramp and i was cruising in third gear and i see the cars on the highway. I was coming around the curve and judged my distance and their speed and knew that if i floored it, i would be able to slide right in between two cars. So i floored it and it downshifted, just as expected and instantly we were barraged with the strong scent that smelled alot like pasta. Not quite the full pasta scent, but damn close. This could also be other road smells. I dont know. I think my transmission is poop. fun fact: I drive around with my dash vents always on. I dont know why, i just like to, so the smells are probably hitting me quite fast.
Hairdo12
Smells like that mean you are running rich. Since you are describing the smells only when the motor is under high load, you are probably smelling the power enrichment mixture. You might be able to get it a little better smelling with a new o2 sensor, but I think you are fine. I can smell it from even brand new cars when the driver stomps on the gas in front of me. Mach 5
spray some Lysol into the air duct in front of the windshield. let sit for 20 seconds then turn the fan on. This will kill the mold in the vents. If it still smells, have the catalytic converter tested. It could be shot. Also check for exhaust leaks cause that could be causing you to smell the converter from inside the car.
