I recently installed a new timing belt because the tensioner broke. This threw the cams out of sync and I thought i got them back in time. Now when the car drives it dies and hits a dead spot at about 2500-3500 rpm's. If i try to accelerate too quickly, the car will do nothing and then finally accelerate after a few seconds. I followed my repair manual to get the cams back in time by lining up the dots on the rear bank with the TDC mark on the crank. When these lined up the front bank didn't line up. My manual said that the cam "flats" should be facing up on the rear bank and the front bank should be 180 deg opposite. With this accomplished, the front bank timing marks didn't line up but i went ahead and ran the motor. I would like some other opinions on how to get the cams timed correctly. I have no problem working on this motor and feel very comfortable with it.
