GrandAmSE
Ok final decided to bite the bullet and set the timing. From what I understand the people the had the car before me broke a fan belt and that rapped around the timing belt and made it jump teeth. I understand I need a cam shaft holddown tool is this a specific tool or can I use something else? If so, what? A couple of other questions. 1. Can I leave the fuel lines hook to the rail? 2. Can I use the rubber seals around the valvecover over again? 3. How much is a intake manifold gasket? 4. Whats the life expectancey for a 3.4 DOHC? 5. Can to you replace the fuel pressure relieve valve with a fuel pressure gauge? Thanks Bill. B
joey b
1. I think so 2. Yes 3. depends on year. 96/97 is like 3 bucks. I think earlier might be about 12 4. Expectancy, I would say 200K, but you can get more if it is taken care of and something drastic doesn't happen
Lord Bowler
I seen them X motors go to 300K if taken care of.
White93z34
1. Can I leave the fuel lines hook to the rail? yes, i do it when i pull my intakes all the time, be sure the rubber O rings are good, and replace as needed, use oil or a like lubericant before reinstalling into the intake 2. Can I use the rubber seals around the valvecover over again? mabie, but i'd replace them for good measure, cheep insurance against leaks. 3. How much is a intake manifold gasket? about $22-$30 or so depending on parts store 4. Whats the life expectancey for a 3.4 DOHC? mines sitting at 159,000 runs like it has half that, i see no problems with it making it to 300k. theres members here with several 200k+ 3.4s 5. Can to you replace the fuel pressure relieve valve with a fuel pressure gauge? doubt it, but you can buy a pressure gauge that reads off that very valve. Did this not make sense to anyone else? he means the serpentine belt, but unless they ran the motor with the cover off, I dunno how that could happen. patgizz
the thing is, the timing belt, unless someone takes the covers off, is completely covered and that's not possible unless it was run with the covers off. i have a feeling whoever sold you the car blew smoke up your ass.
