Psych0matt Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 So i pulled out of the driveway to run to buy groceries, and i heard a pop type noise, didnt think anything about it because everything was running fine and the like. it seems like now there is a good 2 inches or so in the steering wheel that seems to be just loose space. it still turns fine and drives normal, aside from the play. any ideas? i did a quick visual inspection but didnt see anything. ' UPDATE: So, my rack is shot. One of the main braces (or whatever) that hold it all on was completely broke off on both sides. I'm lucky I had any steering at all (and that I didnt end up in the ditch or a telephone pole) Anywho, it's in the shop right now and will be fixed tomorrow. I wish I had time to do it myself, but at least it will be done right and quick and I wont miss any work/school Quote
97loudcut Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 ive always had some play in my wheel but nothing like that... hmm im curious what it is Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Normally when theres play in the steering wheel it has to do with the tie rods... Quote
Crazy K Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 tie-rods or ball joints. Matts steering wheel is crooked. hard to say why, but it can't be mounted crooked on the saginaw columns, because they have a alignment spline. I believe his car needs a really good once over, maybe a new BJs, and tierods, and a 4 wheel alignment. Quote

Psych0matt Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 Well, I guess I'll add that to my list of things to do this winter. I'll probably swing by meineke and have Jim give it a once over and see what he thinks Quote

I'm willing to bet the rack isn't in the best shape either. Quote
Crazy K Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I would attempt to tighten the rack adjustment nut first. I've only seen one bad rack. wait that sounded funny for some reason Quote
