Supreme Cutlass Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 And is rubbing against the monoleaf to the point that it's wearing down the metal.. how hard is it to fix? And, how soon does this need to get fixed? do I need to stay off the car? or can I still drive it for a few weeks? Quote
Supreme Cutlass Posted September 5, 2006 Author Report Posted September 5, 2006 My chiltons manual says "front rod" but it's the thingy that's right beside the monoleaf. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 yeah Id try to get that fixed. Quote
Supreme Cutlass Posted September 5, 2006 Author Report Posted September 5, 2006 I actually thought the noise it was making was from the worn monoleaf pads, then I saw that there was a shiny spot on that rod.. The car isn't showing any signs of wandering or anything, so I guess I'll just wait until I've got time to do it. It looks pretty cramped to get to that front one, do I have to remove the gas tank? Crazy K Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Lateral link! Sometimes they can be bent back a bit. but they are a PITA IMO. I had to replace the rear on the 94 CS sedan. Quote
Supreme Cutlass Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 Since I have to drop the tank, should I look into replacing the pump or anything in the tank while i'm at it? What makes the lateral ink such a PITA? Quote
Supreme Cutlass Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 what's the part number for this thing? I can't seem to find it.... Quote
Crazy K Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 trying to break it loose. with a minimal clearance. honestly? I think it can be removed while the tank is installed, but You;ll need a good set of wrenches. no clue. I salvaged a used on my my car. cost me $20 from a J/Y but that was probably a deal, I pulled it. Quote
mfewtrail Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Front Lateral Link Part # 10062857, lists for $55.XX from GMPartsdirect Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 If it has any visible creases in it, replace it ASAP. You'll lose control of the car should it snap, and if it has visible creases in it, it's just a matter of time. I speak from experience, but luckily, it wasn't my experience! Quote

PCGUY112887 Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Why in the world would you need to drop the gasktank to remove trailing arms? I did my monoleaf pads last night and it appears to be fairly simple to get to the each link, just hard to get them unstuck . Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I dont see where you would need to remove the tank..... Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 i had one snap, you won't loose control, it will just pull to one side under accel or braking That wasn't the case for my step-bro, he was driving 70mph and claims he lost control on the highway and almost wrecked. Quote
Crazy K Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I have pics somewhere of my ghetto-rigged right rear trialing arm on the 94, when we discovered it was about to break. think bright orange rachet straps, holding the parts at compression. no clue where the pics at. Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I dont see where you would need to remove the tank..... Can't remember exactly offhand, but are the top/middle bolts for the fronts right next to the tank? I don't remember how tight it is. Quote

It's the front lateral link, NOT the trailing arm, so the bolt is placed right next to the gas tank. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 If I remember right when I was undercoating my car, it seemed like you could deff fit a socket and breaker bar in there to get them loose.... But Im not 100% sure on this... Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 the bolt slides out towards the gas tank side so the tank has to come down... and i was doing a 50mph offramp when mine broke and i didn't loose it Quote
