Radio compatability?

Will my stock 2000 Grand Am tape deck/radio work in the '95 GTP? They look the same. If it does, I'm going to take the aftermarket unit out of the GP and put it in my car before she trades it in. Catch is, I've gotta do it VERY soon (which will be fun, because I have no idea how to do it!). Like... tonight?

Please get back to me soon, guys! And thanks!

Woo hoo! I just worked out a three-vehicle trade then.

The stock Pontiac tape deck from the Grand Am goes into the GTP before it gets traded in. The Pioneer unit from the GTP goes into the Blazer. The stock Chevy CD player from the Blazer goes into the Grand Am. Sam gets her beloved aftermarket unit, I get a factory CD player, and the GM dealer gets a lame-ass tape deck (but at least it's stock Pontiac!).

 sweet deal man... that why i like how GM has basically kept the radios the same... chrysler seemed to always be changing the style/shape of the radio itself not just the trim around it so some radios wouldnt fit in other models, or even from year to year

It took a lot of bargaining, but we finally worked it out. I'll eventually look to trade someone for a stock Pontiac unit, though. I love the factory look, but it has to be from the SAME factory, you know?

Just beware that the mounting tabs between the Chevy and Pontiac radios are different. I put my 96 Lumina's stereo in my 95 GP temporarily and I had to cut a notch in the right tab of the Chevy radio to get it to line up with the "alignment notch" on the GP's dash.

Also, the SCV (speed controlled volume in case you were wondering) on the Chevy radio won't work unless you swap the SCV wire in the Pontiac's harness to the correct location (don't ask me where it goes, though - I completely forgot.)

On a side note, I bought a Pontiac radio out of a 2001 GA for the 95 GP and it was identical to the 95 radio (externally, anyway.) It bolted in and worked as it should...
