engine swap 3.4 to 3800 SC

I was talking to the guy at sinister performance (gmtuners.com) i believe. He said the engine it self will run aroudn $1000 seems like a good price to me, and labor aroudn $2500-3000. That sounds reasonable but I am going to have to do it myself with smoe mechanic friends because i cant afford that plus i dont even live near the guy.

What do you guys think about the engine price? and i can have him program the ecu in my 94 gtp to work with this 3800 right? is there anything else major that has to be considered? or is this a somewhat boltin engine swap without any custom fabricating? I've seen some guys on this forum with 3800's in there GTP's i would like to hear from them.

i paid 700$ total which included taking my old engine out, the engine came back to my house and i put it together (which you shouldnt have to do), but then he put the new engine in, relocated my coil packs, put on new mounts and starter and other things i bought for it, fixed the radiator, and then had to swap the alternator after it was all in and we found out it was fried

Yea i thought it was pretty crazy but then again i expect any work u pay anyone to do is insane money as it is, thats why i try to get everything done my self and if i cant then somone i know good enough to do it for free or very good discounts.

700 bucks for install i could pay that but i dont know if anyone is close enough for me to swap the engine.

What i need to know is any write ups been done on swapping a l67 into my car yet? or they arent needed cuz its straight foward enough?

Hey for the guy brian or w/e i'll send you an email when i get closer to this project its still all info gathering for now i dont even know when its going to happen either before the winter or in the spring, but not this month for sure.

What i want to know is that when i do an L67 swap will the features still work from the cpu? like in my car i have a thing on the left of the dash it shows temp, mileage, gallons used, and you know wat it is, does it work after the new ecu or reprogramed ecu? or will it be totally pointless?

the DIS/DIC? You have an obd 1.5 compatable version in your car. 94 and 95GP have obd 1.5 version, but the 96 has the obd 2 version. It depends what pcm you use. You will have to stick with an obd 1.5 pcm'd 3800 to make it work, if such a pcm exists. anyone with more experience?

you can not keep it unless you keep that PCM. the only way to do that is to keep the 4t60e trans. there is really no point to that. if you want a DIC i say get the 98+ one. i would suggest getting gauges and a panel for that cubby hoel and forget that thing.

some guys have tried it and it did not work

Daaamnn... I've been planning this swap for a while, but I didn't think I was going to loose those features...

What if one was to swap out for the 96 OBD2, and then use an OBD2 L67? Then could all that stuff work?

How about the HUD... does that still work? (not sure how that hooks up)

the HUD is fine. not all the features are lost when putting in the OBD 2 motor. just some.on the 95 youwill have to put a 96 in there for it to work. gauges would be more useful in those cubbies though. you can also use the newer one in the center cubby. it fits OK and is not too bad to wire up
