Will this kit below work on first gen W's? I saw it at gmpartsdirect.com.

GM PART # pk12456148

CATEGORY: Accessories & Misc.

PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00

GM LIST: $201.89

OUR PRICE: $124.59

DESCRIPTION: Handling Upgrade Kit

This suspension kit is intended to reduce body roll and chassis flex while enhancing cornering capabilities.

Kit is for use on 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix and 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo. Handling Kit inlcudes all hardware and bushings to replace existing sway bars and to add the strut tower brace, and consist of:

P/N 12498642 Heavy Duty Rear Sway Bar w/insulators

P/N 12498643 Heavy Duty Front Sway Bar w/insulator and end links

P/N 12498649 Rear Tubular Trailing Arm Kit which contains two trailing arms P/N 10409660(ARMS NOT PICTURED)

P/N 12456148 Strut Tower Brace.

An additional strut brace P/N 12456148 can be ordered for rear strut tower, but is a labor intensive installation.

(If you are adding this to a vehicle that does not have a rear sway bar from the factory you will have to modify the brackets in order to install this rear sway bar.)

Im most interested in the tubular rear trailing arms....

Hmmm well, all the front struts are, I thought only the rear suspension changed between gens aside from bigger front rotors. the front strut towers are spaced the same I think, so the brace would work, I'm not sure at all about the sway bars, really I just wonder if the trailing arms are the same length. Or if there are aftermarket trailing arms for 1st gens. I didn't see any with a search.

The front strut tower brace will work with drilling. The rear trailing arms are the same length and do bolt up perfectly. The sway bars will come nothing close to bolting up, and 1st/2nd gen suspension, besides the trailing arms, has nothing the same. I don't know about the strut cartridges themselves, but I wouldn't think so.

I can tell you for sure that the front and rear struts are completely different between the 1st and 2nd gen's, so that's a no-go. Front struts on the 2G's do not have the replaceable cartridges like the 1G's. Swaybars, although I haven't actually tried swapping them out, look different between the 2 as well.

As far as the strut tower brace, you can buy a mounting kit to mount the 2G STB to the 1G strut towers without drilling any holes

Make sure you order the ones for the "Early Model."

Here's some info on the trailing arms themselves:

Help clean up some of the sloppyness in your rear end. Upgrade your junk stamped steel trailing arms for solid tubular ones with poly mounts.

These are a direct bolt on for any 88-96 wbody and are a very good upgrade for the cost.

Thanks Gutless and Disco for confirming that the trailing arms would work. I was aware the sway bars are different, however I didn't know that the 2nd gens used a different front strut. I assumed they were the same as the 1st gen and gen 1.5 Lumi's and Monte's. Just yesterday I took a front strut and left axle from a 93' G.P. and transplanted them to a 95 Lumina LS.

Yes, 1 and 1.5 front suspension is the same.. 2nd gen is entirely different. All 3 have different rear setups.
