94CutlassSLCoupe
How easy would this be? I'm assuming the computer and harness from a 96 Regal or any 3800 SII Lumina/Monte Carlo with the 4t60-e would work (96-97 models)...I'm assuming the trans is not beefed up for the 3800 SII... I mean, this could be worth a shot...the 4t60e seems to be holding up well in my mom's 97 GP GT.... i should probably not try to waste my time and just spend the money on a GTP
jdcutty
I say go for it. It would make your car go as good as it looks.
THe_DeTAiL3R
If you find some wreck mid 90s (like a Regal, or even a Olds Eighty-Eight) that has a 4T60e, then go for it.
jeremy
shouldn't be a problem....
Crazy K
I would stick with the CS. ad do whatever it needs to have a 3800 in there. No offense to anyone but the gtp doesn't inspire me.

I was reaffirming what he said... He has thought about a gtp before and again, and i think the gtp looks too much like the regual gp and they both lack the character that the CS has. And an engine swap into a car you are otherwise quite familiar with would be hella-cheaper. I like his car, period.

DiscoStudd
You can run an L36 (the n/a SII, assuming that's what you're talking about) using the OBD-1 PCM/wiring from a 94 or 95 L27 Regal. The L36 was introduced in 95 on the H-Bodies and ran with the same PCM that the earlier L27's used. They also had the 4T60-E. Here's a "resource" for ya: http://dtcc.cz28.com/eprom/3800PCM.htm

The only thing I'd suggest is, with your tranny having the 3.33 drive ratio, and the 3800's PCM thinking it has a 2.84 OR 3.06 ratio depending on model, you'll be shifting at an unnaturally high RPM. PCM shifts based on vehicle speed.
94CutlassSLCoupe
i take it the PCM from a 1997 GP GT (which has 3800 SII and 4t60-e with 3.33 FDR) won't plug into the wiring for lets say a 96 regal?

A '97 GP GT will have the 3.06 FDR. The wiring and PCM should be the same between a '96 Regal 3.8 and a '97 GP 3.
94CutlassSLCoupe
we have one and it runs the same RPM going down the highway as my cutlass, unless the newer TCC clutch lockup programming changes the rpm's that much. The gt's with the 4t65-e have 3.29:1, so 3:33:1 makes even more sense in that car. The 2nd gen mounts the computer in a different spot, but its weather the computer would work since the regal would be the donor for the wiring harness. Brian P
http://60degreev6.com/Articles/Transmissions/4T60E/4T60E.htm This is the same info in my GM manuals. There was no stock 4T60e mated to the L36 that had a 3.33 ratio. I would also never take the rpm reading on the gage cluster as 100% accurate. Yeah when I meant wiring, I mean the pinouts, not the actual harness locations. So yeah, Regal '96 would work fine. I verified for my app a '96 Lumina van PCM matches up with a '97 Lumina wiring harness.
Brian P
It's not a huge difference with rpm anyway. Example: at 70mph: (225/60R16) 911 revs/min * 3.33 ratio * O/D of say ~0.7 = 2123 rpm (sounds about right) Same comparision 911 revs/min * 3.06 ratio *0.7 = 1951 rpm so a difference of a mere 172rpm at that speed. You'll see that much of a difference when just comparing clusters.
brianteel
i have just delete with 3 people working on this setup. make sure you use a 4t60e trasn because of the electronincs. next you want to find yourselfa 96 buick regal 3800 harness and PCM. doing this will allow you to make your car OBD 2 so you can use a power tuner and it will almost plug right in. the trans can hold the power fine. it would be better if you were starting with the 4t60e that came on the 3800 but anyone will due. there is some info on l67swap.com about that. i will be adding some diagrams and how toos for it
