Supreme Cutlass
Allright, I've got this issue where sometimes the brake light fails, so when the ABS system checks the bulb, the ABS light blinks constantly. Well, I had a stroke of luck on my road trip when my dad tried to open the rad cap and spilled coolant everywhere. Got in the car and the brake light suddenly worked. Cool, right? Well now I'm back to where I started since it rained here for the first time in ages. No brake light and a constantly blinking ABS light. Any thoughts? (and yes, the bulb's fine)
slick
Dirty or failing sensor. I'd try cleaning the contacts where the plug plugs into the ABS sensor. You should be able to pull ABS codes.

And as far as I know, I haven't met anybody who knows how to check for ABS codes.....
slick
Pull off the wheel. You should see a wired plug around the back of your brakes. Pull it out, and clean the contacts. Any reputible shop with a scanner should be able to pull the codes for you.
Supreme Cutlass
I probably won't be puling the codes, seeing as I know what the problem is, but I really don't think that's going to help. like I said, it seems like the problem comes and goes when water sprays under the hood, unless it's a really freaky coincidence... I was wondering if there's wires that run on the passenger side for the brake light that I should check specifically.

Supreme Cutlass
seeing as I know what the problem is Then why are you asking for help? Because I don't know how to FIX the problem. Edit: is there something I need to clarify? Brake light fails to come on, ABS light blinks, Service manual states that the ABS computer checks the brake light. Brake light suddenly starts working after coolant goes everywhere, ABS light goes off. Do I still need to pay to get the code checked? or would you agree that I know what the problem is? Hrm... only when water sprays under the hood, and not when it gets around the wheels?

That's what I'm not sure of, all I know is the problem stopped when coolant sprayed everywhere, now it's back when it rained, and probably splashed water all over I didn't necessarily mean spraying directly under the hood, you know? Supreme Cutlass
It's in place, but why should I clean the connectors to the ABS sensors when nothing's wrong with them? It's just the parking brake.

Is the ABS light flasing or the Brake Light. The parking brake will not flash the ABS light.

The parking brake will not flash the ABS light. yes it will, if you read into the service manual carefully, (I'm using a full dealership manual btw, not a chilton's,etc.) The ABS system will test the bulb (or the circut I believe) and if it doesn't light up, it will flash to show that full ABS is still effective, but there is a problem. I can take a picture if you really don't believe me, I have it right in front of me Edit: Code pertaining to the problem is A087 if you could help me find the wire that might be at fault that would be very helpful. Supreme Cutlass
Looking at the Diagnosis, it looks like I WILL need a scantool to retrieve the datalist and command the brakelight..... unless someone can find something I'm missing. Yep, you need a scantool. This is probably the most promising thing right now. BTW, something stupid to ask, but how are your fluid levels? A-ok, and the parking brake is making proper contact with the other prong to signal the brake light.

I'd call around tomorrow and see if someplace will give you a free scan with there scantool(make sure they can pull ABS codes).
