Grand Moff Joseph Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 I'm finally going to break down and buy some new shoes for my Infiniti I35, as I have stretched the OEM Crapanzas as far as they will go. I've whittled down the choices, and am stuck between two tires: 1. Goodyear Eagle ResponseEdge 2. Yokohama Avids *stock tire size is 215/55/R17 The Yokos are markedly cheaper, and seem to get good reviews on Tirerack, but they seem to promise too much for such a low price point. The new Goodyears look to be great tires, and offer all that I need, but Tirerack has very few reviews on them. So, does anyone use these new Goodyears, or can offer any advice? Thanks! GMJ Quote
slick Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 The Yoko's are GOOD tires. There's definately nothing wrong with them at all. And the fact that they are cheap makes it 10x better. Quote

Are you running Yokos on your Acura? Nah... I'm running the tires the previous owner had installed. I can't think of what they are right now, but there OK. Not good, not bad, just in between. As for my comment on the Yoko's, I personally have never ran them(never really needed to buy new tires for any of my cars, I wreck them too fast LOL), but all I hear is good reviews on them. Quote
Crazy K Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 YOKOS only! they are great tires. two of my cars have them. I have yokos on my olds 98 rims mounted on my CS... which I would like to put on my vert. the 94 sedan has gone 35,000 miles on their lesser basic car tires, handle great (especially when my brother checks the tire pressure every 6 months ) with virtually no tread wear. rumor has it that YOKOHOMA decompiles michelin tires to figure out how to make theirs better. I regard goodyear tires as only one step above firestone and bridgestone. Even though the tire you have selected is a higher performance tire. wouldn't give them the time of day. I call Firestone/bridgestone suicide tires. The do the bare minimum to get you down the road but only barely. My uncle bought a new firestone tire and it lasted three miles to the next firestone dealership on his ford explorer! tire was smoking and had suffered tread seperation. Quote

Thus my use of the term "Crapanza" to refer to the Bridgestone Turanza EL42s that came stock on my I35. Quote

Schudini Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 I have a set of goodyear eagle HP's on my GP. Not impressed. The hydroplane resistance is very good, but the tire needs more rubber on the edges cause it wore out too fast. I'm replacing them with a set of Falken Azenis tires (st-115). They get great reviews, are cheaper than the goodyears, and my friend has these tires and recommends them. Great grip, good even wear, and great wet traction. They've lasted a long time and he drives like crazy. The set of goodyear's that came on my truck were crap. On one of the tires, the steel belt started poking out the side wall. They were also noisy. Replaced them with a set of Yoko Geolandars. Best truck tire I have seen, get lots of compliments. Performance is excellent and they ride smooth and quiet. So in my opinion, Yoko >> goodyear. Quote
marcusa Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 The new Goodyear tires seem to be very excellent. After my dad got Integrities on his Taurus a few years back I figured I'd never consider them again (they suck and are LOUD), but recently I almost got Assurance TripleTreds for my Intrigue since they had good reviews at Tirerack and Consumer Reports. I went with Sumitomo H4s at the last minute since they were 1/2 the price with very little trade-off. Just read the reviews and think of what is important to you. The money I saved on tires is going towards better (KYB) struts, I think its better spent there. Quote
terryk2003 Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 i'm not a fan of goodyear tires @ all...they wear too fast and IMO they are wayy to expensive...i had the Yokahama Avids on my cutlass and they were excellent in the rain and dry, not so great in the snow/ice, but not too bad... Grand Moff Joseph Posted September 5, 2006 Author Report Posted September 5, 2006 Sorry for the lack of an update on this, but I ended up going with a set of Yokohama Avids. So far, I am very impressed with these tires - excellent wet and dry grip, low noise, and all for only $108 each! Quote
