Justin Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I'm looking to get the e-brakes working on the '89 Cutlass, and was wondering what will fit. I have two sets from '89 Cutlasses, but if neither set is salvageable I have a set off of a '91 Lumina and a '92 Regal, both 4 doors. Anyone know if the slightly newer 4 door cables will work? Quote
5speedz34 Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I think all 89-93 cables will work. I know that somes 88's where different. I know that 94's where different. I think any should work. Quote
95oldsVan Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 If they hook up in the back in the correct places, then they can be used and most cables can be adjusted so that helps...its not gospel though, havent done the swap or seen it side by side.Keep us posted what you find out. Quote
Crazy K Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 88 to 93 all + 94 lumina are identical (except maybe 88???) the cables changed on 94+ models BUT I doubt it is the cable. The older style brakes are notoriously bad... and have weak parking brakes. I recommend an upgrade as detailed here: http://www.tpsgarage.com/TGP/brakes/Braking_main.htm Quote
Justin Posted August 23, 2006 Author Report Posted August 23, 2006 Nah trust me it is the cables since they are nonexistant, rusted apart. I've never really had any problems with the rear calipers, had to put in a set of slides in one caliper once but that's it. That swap to the newer park brakes looks like way too much work to me I guess, especially considering you need to swap calipers as well. Quote
Justin Posted August 24, 2006 Author Report Posted August 24, 2006 Nope, robbed a set off of my '92 Regal 4 door, they look like they'll fit just fine. Thanks for asking though, it's hard to find a good set up here in the rust belt. Quote
Crazy K Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 actually the easiest part of the upgrade is the newer type calipers. I ghetto rig the original cables onto the new style calipers and that works out ok. Quote
