I seen the silver access door in the trunk of my 97 GP se and wanted to know if theres a rubber gasket or seal that MUST be replaced when you take it off?

Id like to know ahead of time what seals it so I can have anything ready for reinstall.Never took an access door off so any info helps.

Thanks!

:willynilly:

Seriously,if no one knows,Ill take it off soon and see whats on there and post back.

If the engineering was right on,it should be a reusable rubber seal or an rtv type silicone bead installed to keep any gas vapors out of the trunk area in case of a leak.

Every access door I've ever came across had a rubber seal on it, these should be the same way.

Yes. I can take a picture of an access door/seal from my Volvo 740 Tic if you're interested in seeing what they look like(I already have it off, so it's no problem at all).

There lies the problem, thats for a Volvo, not GM...I dont have high hopes of GM having the same engineering standards as Volvo.

Anyways,I worked at an Audi dealer and seen the removable doors in the trunk for the A6 before.Just wasnt sure GM used a reusable seal!

:surprised:

even if it's not reusable, nothing some black RTV won't fix

Nice to know there's even an access door! My sis's '02 GP has a fuel gage problem, and I was hoping to not have to drop the tank.
