93euro Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 So i'm really considering a 02 Monte SS, and before i get too far into this i would like to know if there are any major issues with these cars as far as reliability goes. i need something that i can depend on, and not have to dump alot of money into. I know nothing's a sure bet, but i don't want a car prone to problems. any input would be appreciated. thank you. Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 I would check http://edmunds.com, and http://autos.msn.com. MSN autos has a pretty comprehensive website, and I know they should have reliabilty ratings. Quote
Brian P Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 they're pretty solid vehicles. The 3.8 is less prone to intake gasket issues, and the tranny is pretty good. I was looking at SS's for myself. Quote
Euro Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 i'd consider them as being reliable!!! i see a bunch of them with 100k+ miles on it on ebay alot Quote
93euro Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 i'd consider them as being reliable!!! i see a bunch of them with 100k+ miles on it on ebay alot 100K? A cars ability to flash over 100000 on the odometer is no real indicator of the reliablilty. those cars could have been repaired many times. and of course no one is going to junk a 4 year old car. Euro Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 over 100k miles when they're 4, 5, 6 years old...i think is a good way to tell. besides...the motor is one of the best ever from gm Quote
fastbird232 Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Eh, reaching 100k is nothing special nowadays. This is the website I always use, with the 2000-05 Monte Carlo already pulled up for you: http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2368/act/usedcarreviewshowall/ Quote
