rockfangd
hi i am so confused. when my car sits for more than a few hours it takes alot of work to get it to start, at least 30 turnovers before it even attempts to fire. i was told by a few gm mechanics that it is the fuel pump. but i do not want to pull the tank and waste money for nothing. when the car has been driven it starts right up but give it like 5 hours and it wont start. no matter what the weather may be. when i turn on the key i hear no noise from the fuel pump to pressurize the rail, ever. i have run the car out of gas 4 times in 2 years, so if it is the pump that would probably explain why. because it never really started till like the second time i ran out of gas. also if anyone can tell me where the test wire for the fuel pump is i would appreciate it. i was told that maybe the red wire on the driver side front near the battery,\ any help would be highly appreciated. and also when it runs it runs absolutely fine its just getting it to run. Dirty Rockstar
Listen to the pump carefully.. My pump was still operating, but it sounded pretty sick.. I swapped the pump and it works great.. I couldn't tell but the sound was pretty rough compared to the new pump in there.. Good luck, and I hope this works! DOHCRagtopguy
On the fuel rail pass. side there is a Schraeder valve that you can hook up a pressure guage to. You need to hook one up and then jump the fuel pump relay to check if you are getting enough pressure to the rail. I'm not sure what the PSI should be, I am at work. I can post it after I get home if you wish, that's where my manual is.
