How do I split my center consol to fix the hinge?

My 94 GP

 

I already read the write-up in the FAQ section on how to take it apart to fix the hinge....but I can't get the bottome of the consol to split wider than 1/4".....and that is prying it apart.

 

I only see one screw in the back of it by the ash tray and took the screw out....and I still can't get the consol to split apart.

 

Is there a screw behind the ashtray and does the ashtray justp pop right out?

 

I've tried pulling the ashtray out, but it won't budge.

 

what do I do next?

The ashtrey just pulls out

 

Theres a screw holding the metal "plate" behind the ashtrey. I think that is all. Then you should be able to split it open.

how easy does the ashtray pull out.....cause I was pulling and thought I was gonna break it.....

 

should I squeaze it a tad and then pull?

push down on that metal clip thing, and the whole thing will pop right out. (I was just in the garage checking my spare on).

Yeah, once you get the ashtray out, it's a piece of cake. But the tray gets stick in there often, so grab the ashing tab and wiggle it until it pops free.
