97loudcut
I am thinking it is about time to do my brakes. I know I need pads but I don't know if I need rotors. Since I moved out to the apartment I have access to no tools. I was wondering if anyone in the Auburn Hills, MI area would have me come over and give me a run through and help me do a brake job. I have no knowledge of brakes and since I have no tools telling me how to do them via forum is no help. I'm sure I could work out some sort of payment (lunch, $$, ect.). Appreciate it. terryk2003
if i lived in MI i'd deffinatly help you out...pretty simple job..but i don't feel like driving 3+hrs to help u do a 1/2 hr job..lol...i am gonna say that putting new rotors on will probably be your best bet, since i'm sure you can get new rotors for ~20 each, and around here i know it costs ~10 each to have them the old ones turned down... terryk2003
umm...is your cutlass really that fast!?...and werent u talking about getting rid of it before?...i don't think i'd spend the $ on the slotted ones for the cutlass myself, just paint the new ones up nice so they don't rust too bad! 97loudcut
not for speed i figured since it was a FWD car having slotted in the front would stop nicer...but nvm
terryk2003
not for speed i figured since it was a FWD car having slotted in the front would stop nicer...but nvm FWD or RWD doesnt really make a difference when it comes to braking...the fronts do most of the work no matter what...it just don't think you'll notice much difference with the slotted rotors, except for cosmetically...of course, if you ride the brakes alot, they might stay a tad cooler if you go with the slotted...FWIW: we have baer slotted and crossdrilled rotors on my mom's alero, and they actually make quite a bit of noise compared to stock rotors...you can hear the pads go across the slots when you stop...kinda annoying... LOL Heat and a long ass breaker bar? Nah... He had a breaker bar on there already, and it was soaked with PB Blaster. Since he was working on the drivers side, I told him to turn the steering wheel as far as he could to the drivers side. Then, with the breaker bar on there, get a nice long pipe, and slip it over the breaker bar. With the knuckle turned all the way, there is plenty of room for however long bar you want. I literally stood to the side of my gf's Regal, and with the pipe and breaker bar, broke the bolts loose. Aparantly it worked for Tony as well. Nick1234
That will work too. I just did the white luminas front brakes. A little heat and the breaker bar did it.

JakeMetz63
It took me 3 hours just to do my rear brake pads and rotors. First off, I had just gotten a new tire... an impact wrench on 130 psi wouldnt get my lug nuts off. We ended up breaking 2 sockets in the process. On the other wheel the pin was stuck in the caliper so I had to pound it out with a thick concrete screw, then drill out the screw from where it went into the pin and then machine the pin back down to size. Took roughly 3 hours.
