joey b
My sister's 3100 96 cutlass was having problems shifting into gear. When the selector was in D it would ONLY operate in 3rd gear. In 2 it would only operate in 2nd gear. 1st and 4th did not even attempt to engage. The SES light and codes told us shift solenoids. I was informed that to replace them required almost removing the tranny. I was informed as well that something inside of the tranny was causing the problem and if I replaced the solenoids the same problem would arise. I changed the tranny and put 1 in from a car. I KNOW FOR CERTAIN that it was fully and correctly funtioning when it was taken out. After all that, the problem was still the same. I changed out the PCM and to no avail, the problem still exists. Anybody know where I should look now?
mfewtrail
Joey, what year is the transaxle that you swapped into the car?
Brian P
Did you test the wiring any, to be sure it's activating the solenoids?
joey b
it came from a 97 3100. I don't know how to test the wires going to the solenoids. Do you mean to check for connectivity? And would I just check the 1 wire going to the specified solenoid. BTW, I think my next move will be to hit up the harness at the transmission with dielectric grease.
