Mach 5 Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 I own a 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE w/ 3.1. The entire exhaust is original. I can get more life out of it but I want something different. I want something that will give a nice sound (no ricer) but not be too loud to get pulled over. I was looking at the Flowtech Terminators but some guy sayed that they are as loud as a Series 40 Flowmaster. Thats too loud. I do have the dual exhaust on it. What should I get? Your help is greatly appreciated. Quote
slick Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Flowmaster isn't the flow master. Get Magnaflow. Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 7, 2006 Author Report Posted August 7, 2006 which magnaflow will fit my car? I was actually just looking at the magnaflows. Im basically want different mufflers w good sound and that will use the stock tips. Quote
Cam'ron Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 unless your gonna do it yourself just go to any shop and they can show you which ones fit. easiest way to go about it. or go out and measure your stock muffler and go to http://www.magnaflow.com with the dimensions and check it out there. Brian P Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 I've never liked magnaflow. I picked up the Hooker Aerochambers, but these flow right thru, and are very loud. You may want to add a resonator just to keep it civil! Quote

You may want to add a resonator just to keep it civil! Those sound nice as well. In fact, I haven't really heard a muffler(even Flowmaster) that didn't sound bad on the 60* pushrod's. Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 What do you think about Dynamax or Walker Quote
Singh Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 search for muscle cars @ the magnaflow site right? not the sport one, probally not. anyone knows off the top of their head a muffler size of the stock mufflers? otherwise i'll measure them tomorw when its daylight, i was lokin at a 12216 but it might be to small idk, i just dont want a ricey sound Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 same here. Otherwise my car might have to go in the ricer section on my site. I looked in the muscle section but the exhaust is a wierd design. I believe the stock inlet is 2 in but thats all I know and understand. Heres the link to the Walker system. http://www.rockauto.com/ref/Walker/Detail.html?1545.jpg Its almost like it has dual inlets with one side acting as an exhaust. It almost doesn't seem possible. Brian P Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 yeah you have that weird early-setup. Somehow it does work (both mufflers will get exhaust flowing out) Walker and Dynamax flow about the same as stock, and are internally designed about the same too. However they will be much quieter. You do always have the option of picking up a '91+ W-body (and '89-90 TGP) dual exhaust setup with an actual Y-pipe split before the mufflers. Either grab it from the junkyard, or better yet the muffler shop can probably create that setup for you right there. Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 It looks like this... http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/performance/psearch.php?part_number=WK22526 right? Do you think walker has that Y pipe? Quote
Brian P Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I don't know if Walker will have it....worth a try! Ebay has something like this. Don't know the seller, and it depends on if you want to throw that kind of money on something you don't have pics of. I would see what the muffler shop can do for you first. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-96-Grand-Prix-Dual-Exhaust-Muffler-System-3-1L-V6_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33630QQihZ009QQitemZ190016909198QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 Thats interesting. Do you think that I should just order 2 stock 2in magnaflows and bring them with me to a shop that can install them and a y pipe for me? Quote
Cam'ron Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 unless you get a really good deal check with the shop first they might have them cheaper Quote
97loudcut Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Seriously. I have had many compliments on my exhuast (including Slick) but I run a Magnaflow Hi-Flow cat, to an aftermarket custom catback (with resonator), and a Summit Turbo Muffler. I had a flowmaster and a dynomax and I (on a whim) bought the Summit muffler. Best sounding / performing muffler and for $20.00 shipped to your door can you beet it. I highly recommend it. I think I will post some videos of my exhuast. Quote
Singh Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 summit racing? nice wat are the size or part number of that muffler? Quote
97loudcut Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,48545.new.html#new theres my videos this is the muffler $14.75 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D630122&N=700+4294923429+4294922711+400304+115&autoview=sku Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 I would love to watch the videos but I can't seem to get access to YouTube do to an internet filter. Can you try somewhere else that doesn't use flash as well? Summit racing... Im was actually just checking out the magnaflows on there. Hopefully they have the dual outlet pipes within my size requirements that can be reverse flowed. Drivers side- 12x8x4 Pass- 14x10x5 All use a 2in pipe that mounts to the muffler. Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 ok cool. You got my email right? Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 that sounds awesome! Thanks for the vids The only problem I got is the fact that GMs design of the dual exhaust system is a little wacky. Quote
97loudcut Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 no i did not get YOUR email but I am glad you got MINE Summit FTW dude Quote
Mach 5 Posted August 10, 2006 Author Report Posted August 10, 2006 I meant address Thanks for the videos. Good luck w the pipes Quote
