Exhaust

Mach 5

Recommended Posts

I own a 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE w/ 3.1. The entire exhaust is original. I can get more life out of it but I want something different. I want something that will give a nice sound (no ricer) but not be too loud to get pulled over. I was looking at the Flowtech Terminators but some guy sayed that they are as loud as a Series 40 Flowmaster. Thats too loud. I do have the dual exhaust on it.

What should I get?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I've never liked magnaflow. I picked up the Hooker Aerochambers, but these flow right thru, and are very loud. You may want to add a resonator just to keep it civil!

Those sound nice as well. In fact, I haven't really heard a muffler(even Flowmaster) that didn't sound bad on the 60* pushrod's.

same here. Otherwise my car might have to go in the ricer section on my site.

I looked in the muscle section but the exhaust is a wierd design. I believe the stock inlet is 2 in but thats all I know and understand.

Heres the link to the Walker system. http://www.rockauto.com/ref/Walker/Detail.html?1545.jpg

Its almost like it has dual inlets with one side acting as an exhaust. It almost doesn't seem possible.

yeah you have that weird early-setup. Somehow it does work (both mufflers will get exhaust flowing out) Walker and Dynamax flow about the same as stock, and are internally designed about the same too. However they will be much quieter. You do always have the option of picking up a '91+ W-body (and '89-90 TGP) dual exhaust setup with an actual Y-pipe split before the mufflers. Either grab it from the junkyard, or better yet the muffler shop can probably create that setup for you right there.

I don't know if Walker will have it....worth a try!

Ebay has something like this. Don't know the seller, and it depends on if you want to throw that kind of money on something you don't have pics of. I would see what the muffler shop can do for you first.

Thats interesting.

Do you think that I should just order 2 stock 2in magnaflows and bring them with me to a shop that can install them and a y pipe for me?

Seriously.

I have had many compliments on my exhuast (including Slick) but I run a Magnaflow Hi-Flow cat, to an aftermarket custom catback (with resonator), and a Summit Turbo Muffler.

I had a flowmaster and a dynomax and I (on a whim) bought the Summit muffler. Best sounding / performing muffler and for $20.00 shipped to your door can you beet it. I highly recommend it. I think I will post some videos of my exhuast.

I would love to watch the videos but I can't seem to get access to YouTube do to an internet filter. Can you try somewhere else that doesn't use flash as well?

Summit racing... Im was actually just checking out the magnaflows on there. Hopefully they have the dual outlet pipes within my size requirements that can be reverse flowed.

Drivers side- 12x8x4

Pass- 14x10x5

All use a 2in pipe that mounts to the muffler.

that sounds awesome! Thanks for the vids

The only problem I got is the fact that GMs design of the dual exhaust system is a little wacky.

WOW thats crazy, all you did was use those mufflers? anyways that link you gave to summit, i'll buy that if its the same dimensions as the stock mufflers, or do i have to do some fabricating? or buy more pipe? or is that the exact right one?

thanks for the links tho, the car sounds great, you got a 3.4 ?? i hope mine sounds like that
