EviLette
I was wondering if they were interchangeable, since from my understanding the 4t60 is vacuum shift, the 4t60E is electronic... would you be able to use the electronic shift cable or whatever it is on the 4t60? or vice-versa? The reason I ask is that the 97 GTP comes with a 4t60E (unless I misread on the w-body info page...) which means that if it is totally toasted, then I could rebuild my 4t60 outta my 92 SE and use it in there... with a shift kit, of course... but that way I wouldn't be wasting parts from my first W-body at all... because the 3.1 is gonna be seriously rebuilt... eventually Just a question that's been on my mind for a couple weeks... been working a new job and haven't had time to get on here to post. digitaloutsider
Any 97+ L67-equipped car (this includes the GTP) has the 4T65e-HD. Not compatible whatsoever.
EviLette
shit. me and my typos... the car is a 96 GTP with a 3.4... I popped the hood and double-checked... so it's got the 4t60-e in it.

mfewtrail
it bolts up And that's as far as you'll get with it unless you go OBD-II or buy an aftermarket transaxle controller(~$900 total from what I remember. A company called "Powertrain Control Solutions" sells them fwiw.)
EviLette
It's a 96.... I just typoed... so it's still got the 4t60-E tranny. I was just wondering if you could convert the vacuum to electronic shift, or vice-versa in order to swap the transmissions between the cars? It probably wouldn't matter too much anyways, though. I imagine both need rebuilding... just rebuild the one thats in it now and put like a 2nd stage shift kit in or something to that effect. Wonder how close the axles are from a 4T60, oh and the mount on the driver's side, I suppose as long as those 2 were close and the shifter could be fitted to work....I would try it...
