Mr.ChevZ34
Hey guys, My buddy has a 1990 Lumina Euro w/.3.1L MPFI and he wants to know if he can take a throttle body off of a 1991 3.4L DOHC and put it on the 3.1L. I don't think its possible personally but is there a way of making it work. He also would like to know if the injectors off of the 3.4L are bigger and if he can use them. Thx. slick
First off, the throttle body on the 3.4 DOHC is molded into the intake plenum. So, unless he feels like cutting up a plenum to take off the throttle body, then machining down the metal so he could have it bolt up, then no, it's not going to work. Yes, the injectors are bigger. But, unless he has some sort of forced induction, his stock injectors are more than sufficient. These cars run rich already, so why dump even more unneccesary fuel? Mach 5
Why doesn't he just get the trottle body bored out. I think the stock injectors are fine. They already make the car crazy rich.
19Cutlass94
hmm, thats interesting, mine runs lean?! If he wants a bigger TB, 60*v6 sells 62mm and 65mm... Other than that, he can try a TB from a 3400 ( not sure if this will work though so dont quote me )
Mach 5
I was going to suggest those TB's but they are to big for the upper intake manifold. You actually need to sleeve the manifold to make it fit. A great upgrade through. I would do it but my Ram CAI is not going to bolt up to that. Mach 5
The problem with porting the throttle body is that the inlet wall on the TB will be too thin. There is only so much you can do to the stock TB. I would just upgrade the air filter to a ram air or CAI system. He will probably be just as happy. A cold air intake adds about 8- 25% more power and torque when done right. I would say I got another 15hp and 20lbs torque with my system. I don't know where you got the idea of me saying port the tb. I said port the intake manifold.
Mach 5
but then your still going to get the same air speed going in because of the TB.
