Amp and subs affecting cars running?

Two times now I've noticed that my car has started to "skip" while driving down the road when I had my music really loud and faded towards the rear so the subwoofers were making the majority of the noise. So both times I would turn my music to zero to listen to the engine and I didn't hear anything weird but kept my music off just to be sure and it wouldn't skip again. I was just wondering if my 2 12'' subwoofers and 400w amp could drain so much power from the car that it would effect the way it runs. Yes, I have it running off the aux post and a regular battery and alternator if that makes a difference... which I imagine it would.

400w amp isnt going to drain the car very much to notice anything major. The 'skip' is probably just you, not the car. I think the really only way it would make the car run bad is if it was drawing soo much current that your running less than 12v, which would damage your computer.

First thing first. Don't run your stereo off of your auxilary post. I bet your stereo's power cable is thicker than the wire running from the battery to the auxilary post

Anywho, you need to upgrade your pos. and negative cables in the engine bay. All the grounds, and all of the power cables upgrade to 4 guage.

Yeah... it was all just a coincedence. My car is f**ked up again and it has nothing to do with the stereo. And slick I don't see any problem running my amplifier's power cable off the aux post... I KNOW I'm not the first or only person to do it.

You can run it off of the auxilary post, but you may not be getting your true potential out of your amp.

You can run it off the AUX, but like slick said, your not getting the potential out of the amp. The more voltage you get to the amp the better. The AUX just limits that. Not to mention it always comes loose.

!! I hope up upgraded the wire running from the battery to the aux post(which BTW, I know you did).

I am putting in a new high torque gear reduction starter first then bolting on the new cables for the batt. the stock Y cable is on until I unbolt the starter though, then I will start the system. its gonna be bad ass.
